Very happy Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Originally I had the Heil Pro-7. Two reasons I sold it off on eBay: I have to keep one ear free for caregiving to my wife, and the Pro-7 was difficult to use one-eared. And, for my preference, it was heavy. Bought the BM-10 (iC electret version), and it's just what I need, and getting good on-air results. PS: NEW website: Heil's ham radio products are now on a separate site. For this one, see: https://heilhamradio.com/product/bm-10/

VOX plug does not work on NEW version Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Been using old BM10 for 15 years until it gave out. Was a 5 out of 5. Ordered the new version to be used on the same radio TS2000 that I used the old version on. Cable and plugs have been changed. The PTT cable when plugged in works fine, however the VOX cable does not trigger the VOX even with the gain turned all the way up. The supplier sent a sencond unit and I returned the first. The second unit does not work either. Now I'm looking at trying the BM17. Hope it works. Both use the same NEW mic cartridge ????

FRAGILE! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The Heil BM-10 and BM-5 share the same, fragile Boom-Clip design. A low point for an otherwise great company.

Don’t Buy! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Broke right out of the box. Cheap boom clip snapped instantly-and I was carefull. Everything about this product is cheap, low quality foreign made trash. No way worth $125. Such a disappointment for a Heil product.

I like the Heil BM-10 headset. Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I bought an HEIL BM-10-iC headset for use in the CQ WW SSB Contest (2016) and was pleased with the outcome.

The BM-10 is comfortable to wear, light weight and it does not put too much pressure on the ears. The ear pads are made of foam and are thus comfortable to wear.

The headset is so light that at first I felt it was a bit loose, but once I had figured out the tension adjustments it was most comfortable. As a matter of fact after a few QSO’s I had forgotten that I had the headset on.

The microphone boom is easy to adjust and very light so it does not put strain on the left side of the headset. I did extensive tests using the BM-10-iC both with my ICOM IC-7600 and IC-7410 transceivers and audio results are most satisfactory both for DX work and rag chewing.

Originally I had wanted to get the HEIL PRO-7 headphones. However, after having had an opportunity to try them out, I felt they were not comfortable enough for me (despite the thick gel foam ear pads). In this context I need to mention that I have rather a large head which may have contributed to this feeling.

Recently I compared the BM-10 to my Sennheiser PXC-250-II travel headphones that I have used with the IC-7410 when operating at the summer house. I was somewhat amazed at the outcome. The BM-10 is noticeably clearer when copying weak signals.

Conclusion: The Heil BM-10-iC is a great product and I would most certainly buy it again.

Not a bad headset for a bargain price. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I purchased a BM-10 with the HC-4 element back in the early 1990s, and it gave me good service until 2007 when the HC-4 element abruptly went dead.

The HC-4 elements, which always gave me great audio reports, is no longer available from Heil, and I've had to replace the microphone element with a cheap electret element.

I hope to get many years of good service from this headset.

While I prefer the Heil Proset, the BM-10 is a good compromise between comfort and price. It is lightweight, reasonably durable, and sounds great. I would not recommend this headset for noisier environments.

Better than stock, could be better than average Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I like that the headphones don't block out room sound, but I also don't have a lot of noise in my shack. The main reason I started looking for a headset was because of the poor audio reports I got from the stock Icom microphone. The mic seems to do a good job on the air, at least that's what people tell me, and I can usually get through in a pileup. Construction is fair, with the cable running to the right earpiece held down with zip ties. The in-line PTT button sticks sometimes. It would also be nice if the headphone wires were set up to be the same length as the total length of the mic and PTT cables with the radio adapter (which is required in order to use the microphone), so that they all could be tied together in a nice neat bundle instead of a single cable with an odd length. And getting rid of the 1/4" PTT jack, moving to a mini or sub-mini connector (like the microphones that came with the old cassette recorders), would be fantastic. We're paying for a premium product, it would be nice if some thought were put into it.

Good for me! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Audio out using the newer IC version seams to be great. I think response is flat (in good way!) with some higher end boost perhaps. Seams to get me through better than the stock mic for whatever that counts for.

On receive these are really good. I very much enjoy these on every mode!

I prefer this style headphones over closed ones because it lets out a little high end sound and allows me to not completely tune out the outside world if needed. Can pop one side off ear for example without discomfort.

They are very light and comfortable!

The PTT button works great as well. I'm afraid of it being a point of failure down the road, but we'll see. Of course you can use whatever PTT method you want, but it's good to have the backup button right on the chord for when you're traveling light for example. I pretty much use it all the time though (why not, it's there).

If I'm ever using a speaker for some weird reason I drop the phones down on my neck and adjust the mic arm and it works perfect. Good for sitting back in the chair relaxing.

Wouldn't want to rough these up to much though. These are not made to withstand crazy abuse. They are my primary ssb tool for when traveling or at home.

Great Design Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
After trying out several different headsets, I ended up getting the Heil BM-10. I call it a traveler, for me it works much better than their other Traveler types. This unit is lightweight, easy to use, and simple to repair if something goes wrong. I was a little surprised to see zip ties holding the wire on top, but hey if it works for cheaper then go for it.

Incredibly good sound out of my IC-718 and with the foot switch it makes a perfect combination. Even running a switch so I can monitor my Dual-Bander in one ear and HF in the other. Great unit!
