Perfect base for the FT-817. Very well machined. Very well made.

Fantastic! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Every FT-817 should have one of these kits installed! In fact, Yaesu needs to copy it (er liscence it from Palm Radiod!).

I've fumbled with most of the tilt stands out there for the FT-817. None work as well as the Peg Leg. The Peg Leg is simply the best.

Nothing more to say. Just buy one!

Simple and Elegant Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Solves the tilt view/operating problem with the FT-817 very ingeniously. Much less "clunky" than other solutions. They even supply extra parts when and if needed. A bit pricey but worth it. This is the one you should choose.

I give PROPS to these props Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
There is an annoying problem operating the wonderful FT-817 from park benches and campgrounds. This tiny transceiver always seems to be pointing anywhere but toward your face. Yaesu, for all the brilliant engineering forgot to put on tilt feet.

The folks at Palm Radio solve this issue with an ingenious add-on called the Peg Leg.

The Peg Leg accessory includes a thin pair of stainless steel legs, washers, and new, longer screws for the neck strap bracket. The Peg Legs themselves are cleverly stamped in a shape that allows them to "lock" in place against the washers and the microphone socket-housing. Genius.

The Peg Legs can swivel forward when not needed and are fairly unobtrusive to the operation of the radio. Someone with exceptionally thick fingers might carp about the limited space between the SQL/RF Gain control and the right hand Peg Leg in the "Up" position.

Palm even included four, stick-on, nonskid feet to keep this shack-on-a-belt firmly fixed on the picnic table.

The pictorial instructions will allow even the freshest tech to install the Peg Leg on their 817.

Drawbacks? Well let's really, really try and nit pick - just 'cause we're hams. When in the UP position, there's the fat fingered ham that probably should have passed on an FT-817 in the first place. In the DOWN position, even Palm suggests that you limit yourself to using the front BNC jack. With the rig now at that nice tilt, the rear SO-239 points right at the table top without much room to spare.

Finally (because we're hams and we are cheap sons 'o guns) at $16.95, you get what you pay for should apply. As wonderful as the engineering of the leg is, that's a lot for a few nylon washers, four screws, and those two clever Peg Legs.

But, you can't have mine.

Great and simple !!! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Johannes was so kind to send me a PEG-LEG for my FT-817 to do an initial test and to hear about my opinion. As I did some electronic mods for the FT-817/857/897 he thought I could be the right person for such a test and I would give an objective statement.

Of course I was really surprised as I got the PEG-LEGs by post cause I didn't expect them and it was a real new and unexpected feature for one of my both FT-817 too.

The mounting only needs about 5 minutes.

It's a real great add-on and like Uli told before, you can switch quickly between "Portable" and "Base" usage.

I tried out several stands for the FT-817 before, but for those people who like to use the FT-817 as a portabel AND as a base TRX I would prefer the PEG-LEG.

It's easy to handle, small, lightweight, always mounted on your FT-817 (so you can't miss them at home while you like to work portable), ..and cheap !!

I would buy them again.

A must have for FT-817 users Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I just recently received the "Peg Legs" from Palm Radio. BTW these guys did the Palm Paddle, Code Cube, etc....

http://www.palm-radio.de/english/english.html

The "Peg-Legs" are permanently attached to the radio, and are designed to be folded out for operation. So it's easy to me to switch from portable mode to "hotel room" mode, just by folding out the legs.

I can't believe that nobody else had that brilliant idea before. This is a must have for all FT-817 users. The installation is very well documented and very easy to do. It's just a 2min deal.

I am travelling a lot and always with my FT-817. So I need to be flexible. Palm-Radio did another great job. Worth to check it out.
