Review Summary For : The Original 3898 Pecker
Reviews: 55MSRP: 65.00
Description:
The Pecker is designed to tune any tube final transmitters and amplifiers for SSB use fast and safe. It uses a single pulsed tone at a 30% on 70% off dutycycle. The short dutycycle helps keep dangerous heat buildup off your expensive tubes. It is NOT similar to MFJ's amp tuner the 214 and others that plug into the cw jack and use a pulsed carrier.
Product is not in production

Top Notch! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Had mine over a year now and it is the best investment in accessories I have ever made. Helps me tune my old AL-811 in a flash. I have the "plug and play" model with the nine volt battery. The ONLY thing that has ever wore out is the battery! I got tired of that and hooked up a wall wart. Works FB

great help Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I got the modile a few weeks ago, installed everything in the base of an old vintage microphone and started to use it with different old and new trx to fire my Acom 1000 amplifier. It got very simple and quick to change the bands. Great and a very , very friendls after sales support by Larry.
Maybe the best "little" investment you ever did.

It works great ! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I was interested in this SSB tuning device for
my TS-850/TL-922a set-up. I e-mailed the website
a couple of times with questions. Then,I read the reviews here, and it was worth checking it out. I bought just the board.
I finally got it wired up correctly, and it worked just fine. I would've rather bougtht the
"plug N' play" model ! Those pins on mike plugs
are mighty small ! I burndt my thumb holding the
shield wire on the correct pin !?!
A GREAT TUNING AID, and it will help my
NEW 3-500ZG tubes have a long life ! ! It's quick and percise amp to antenna adjustments !

Excelleent Amplifier Tune-up aid Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Excellent Tune-up aid for all manually tuned amplifiers. Makes changing bands and retuning amplifiers almost as fast as a no- tune amplifier. No worry about over stressing tubes while tuning. Used with a Ten-Tec Centurian Amplifier.

Does the job Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I purchased this tuner as a supplement to the Tuning Pulser that I use. After using both tuners it is apparent that if you want to tune for SSB using the quickest, easiest, and safest method then the 3898 Pecker Tuner is what you need. After using the Tuning Pulser to tune the amp in the CW mode, I stilled had to retune to get peak SSB performance. Now using the Pecker Tuner on SSB is a one shot tune. It's easy to operate and well made making it a great accessory to any amplifier. Thank you Larry for a great product.

The tool i looked for Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I purchased one of them because my homemade cw pulser wasn't enough to check overshoots during amp and trx tuning. I had the need to have a sine pulse train into the mike socket to check all the tx chain. The pecker is cheap and good for my purposes. Very good for tweaking PA's avoiding stresses to circuits.
It's well built. And, last but not least, the builder is one of best "old man" i met: kind, clear and fast. The old ham spirit is still alive!

Your Amp's Best Friend! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have owned a "3898 Pecker" for over 10 years and it is still working as it did the day I purchased it. No problems at all. Remarkable craftsmanship and attention to detail. The design is perfect for anyone that operates a manually tuned amplifier and wants to extend the tube(s)life. You cannot go wrong with this well designed product.

Outstanding Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I ordered my first "pecker" on a whim and in through e-mails with the builder found I could get a "plug and play" version, which I did. The construction is totally professional and the appearence is very clean and fits right in on the radio bench.
After doing the "AAAUUUUUDDDIIIOOOOOOOO" thing for ever using the pecker seemed almost sacrilegious and way too easy. The results were all it took to convince me. Power was up and current was down. I ordered another for my Kenwood. 'Nuff said. Don.
