The best Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I own my SM 8 for over 4 years now and use it on both my IC765 and IC736 and allways get great reports on the modulation. I use the one with both cords, so just one mic on the desk.
the best mic so far, beats the heil.

A keeper.

SWEET MICROPHONE Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have had 2 of these over the years & LOVE the audio it gives.Worked GREAT on the rigs I used it with:IC-275H,IC-746,IC-746 PRO,& IC-756 PROII.I prefer a boom mike for my main rig so I decided on a HEIL PR-20 on an overhead boom & sold my SM-8 with both cords.ICOM did NOT make this mike very long because it was cutting into their microphone sales I'm sure because of it's ability to operated TWO rigs with just one mike feature.NEVER got a bad audio report & I can NOT tell the difference in the sound of the SM-8 from the SM-20.I kept the SM-20 as a backup just in case I should need it.Getting VERY hard to find one with both cords in good condition & someone who wishes too part with it.If you own two ICOM rigs & want a desk mike for both the ICOM SM-8 desk mike with both cords is a GREAT choice & of course it works GREAT if you own just ONE ICOM rig as well! }:>)

Best Mic I Have Owned Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Bought my first SM-8 in 1989 and used with my IC-765. Sold the mic together with the radio a few years later. Subsequently I have bought a relatively newish SM-8 complete with the two leads. I use it occasionally as I do not wish to wear it out. I use my Heil ICM for donkey work as that is replacable.

You get what you pay for! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I'll say nothing less than what all the other user's would say.

I love this mic.!
It's awesome!

I've owned quite a few of various mic's, and still own 3 of the imfamous Heil mic's. Yes! I know different class of mic., but get best results with my SM-8 in conjuction with W2IHY. Yet! Still beats all other mic's without W2IHY maybe untill you start getting into the PR-20 and up class.

All I have to say is I own (2) SM-8's.

Enough said!

Two Thumbs Up ! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I use it to toggle between my 706MKIIG and my 736 with nothing but excellent comments/results.

756PRO and 910H Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Bought on E-BAY for $140 since I read good reports here on E-HAM about it. Well it is the best microphoe I have ever owned and control my 756PRO and 910H with it. I previously used an SM20 for the 756PRO and the hand mic with the 910H. Everyone has nothing but good reports on both HF and on VHF/UHF/1296. The convenience of having one mic for two rigs and good audio was well worth the $140.

A SSB microphone Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I bought a used SM-8 from a great ham than well explained me how really work the microphone. Because I have a Big Bass Voice I ajusted my audio a bit higher than the normal and a bit amplified.

First, I used it with my Icom IC-706MKIIG for SSB and FM communications. Everyone reports me it was too loud and punched in FM and they ear a fly plane on next room. On SSB it was too loud but well punched. Ok then, I will use it with another rig ;-)

Now, with same ajusting. I used it with my Icom IC-271H for SSB communications and everyone reports me very well loud, punched and not too much sensitive. Good! I looking forward eagerly to use it with the (next purchase) UHF brother: IC-471H. I will use one microphone for both rigs. That's a good option. Only by switching a small stick !!!

Simply the best for Icom rigs Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought a used SM-8 from AES Milwaukee in 1993. I have used the mic with several ICOM rigs, the IC-725, IC-751, IC-737, IC-756, IC-275A and the IC-706 with the adapter for the RJ-45 plug. In fact, I find myself planning my next rig purchase around this same mic. The fact that it has 2 mic cables so you can run 2 rigs with the same mic at the flip of the switch is also very handy when you run a HF rig on "A" and VHF or UHF on "B". On the bottom, you can adjust tone, gain and impedence of the mic. This seems easier to me than going into the menu to adjust audio parameters. This is the best $95 (used) I ever spent and has sold many Icom rigs for the Icom company.

Great mic for Icom rigs Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I bought one used from Burghardt's and it serves me well. I have it connected to both my Icom 746Pro and Icom 718. It has adjustments on the base for both lines so you can tweak it for each radio.
