Excellent mic! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is an excellent microphone that mates well with the IC-756 and the IC-725 (these are my 2 rigs i've used it with thus far). It allows for connection to 2 rigs simultaneously with an extra cable, and I frequently get excellent audio quality reports without asking the other station! I highly recommend this mic.

Modifications Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Recently I bought a Icom IC-718 e SM8 Microphone (electret element). However, some friends report me a bass and poor audio quality. Initially, I change the C10 capacitor - 10nf (0.010 uf or 10Kpf)responsible for tone control. replacing for ceramic capacitor of 3,3nf (0,0033 uf and 3,3Kpf). I got a mid and treble transmition and more average power. You can change the original electret element for Heil HC-5 and you can get great reports. For that, you need just to add a eletrolitic capacitor in serie to isolate the voltage sent to eletrect element. Any doubt, e-mail me.
Regards.

A bit over sensitive for VOX operation... Time Owned: unknown months.

I've been using this desk mike by Icom with my Icom IC-756 for a little over two years now and get consistantly great audio reports. The mike is flexible, so if you bump it, knock it over, pack it, or whatever, you can do so without fear of breaking it. The up and down buttons come in really handy too. My only complaint with it is that it's a bit over sensitive for VOX operation. Unless you're wearing headphones and the room is totally quiet, forget it. I have to run 100% anti-vox on my 756 for it to work right. Other than that, it's a great mike, I'd recommend it! I'll be upgrading to the SM-20 desk mike by Icom soon. But I'll keep this little unit for another one of my HF radios, one without VOX capability. As this mike puts out good audio, can be set up to use on two radios with the A/B line output, and is small and just "fits" this operator well.
