Don't worry about the negative review Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I received one of these wideband discone antennas last year as a gift from the XYL. She knew that I had been wanting to replace the 3 antennas I was using with only ONE. This antenna was her and my choice.

Despite what AC8V has written about the build quality, etc, you HAVE TO GET THE ANTENNA UP IN THE AIR. Lazy effort will yield poor results. This antenna has been outstanding for 2m SSB nets here in town, a loose gathering on 223.500, and even 6m FT8 when the band has been open. What's more is that I have used this same antenna on 10 and 12m with MORE than satisfactory results. Bashing the antenna without understanding it's pros and cons is simply foolish.

For less than $50, the XYL got me into an antenna that has survived 70+ MPH wind, piques the curiosity of the neighbors, and is a good performer from 24 MHz all the way up past 915.

TRAM 1410 Version Reviewed Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've been using the Tram 1410 version of this discone antenna (no vertical element) as a receive-only VHF/UHF antenna (currently for my RSPdx SDR), mounted at 20 feet, for approximately 2 years.
I've had no issues with its ears, in fact I'm able to pull in a distant NOAA weather station (Payette, ID) that I've been unable to hear on any other antenna from my QTH.
I was also surprised to learn that the 1410 actually hears pretty well on 20 meters, a shock to me. I can monitor 20 without switching antennas, and move to my HF rig and transmitting antenna (MFJ-2010) if I feel the need to make contacts.
Overall, I have to give this antenna a good rating based on my receiving experience. Over the two years of installation, we've had up to 60 mph winds, temperatures from sub freezing to over 100 degrees, and the antenna has not once failed me.
Once again, this version is not a transmitting antenna and I've never fed RF through it.
Apparently, your mileage may vary.

Better than expected Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I was not expecting much for $50 but quality of construction was very good. I installed on a 20 ft pole outside and fed with 75 ohm coaxial cable. receive performance has been right up nose to nose with my comet 2/440 8 ft vertical. When building I cut the 27 mhz elements a bit to see what would happen on 10m fm. So far all vswr readings on 10,6,2,and 70cm are under 2:1 where I intend to use this antenna. This antenna really shines on aircraft band and the 800 mhz public service bands. I surely would buy one again.

replacement antenna Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I gave it a 4 because it was 2-s units lower than the mfj discone this one replaced. Now as far as ruggedness, it is a better antenna. Haven't tried out the other bands yet.

Not what I expected Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Well I bought this antenna about a year ago. It goes together easily. However, while the antenna is resonant on 2 meters and 70 cm I have not checked it on 220 or 1.2 GHz. I've used it on 1.2 but just to see if I could hear and talk to a neighbor about a mile away. The antenna will also tune on 10 meters, but forget about six. I e-mailed the gentleman that I bought it from for some assistance since it came with no directions on assembly or use. He did e-mail them to me, but he had no time to help me with the 6 meter issue. I've tried repeatedly trying to adjust the tuning slugs for both ten and six with no luck. I've also discovered that the antenna itself is very deaf on 2 meters. Comparing it to a 2 meter ground plane with the same radio and repeater about 80 miles away I get 7 s-units receive on the ground plane and not even 1 s-unit with the Tram. I do not trust the antenna and I am disappointed in the claims of what the antenna is supposed to do compared to what it does. Also, poor customer support.

Excellent Product Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Recieved the antenna and after 30 minutes it was up and running.
I was planning on using for Scanner, 10Meters, 144MHZ, 220MHZ, and 440MHZ. So far it tuned up on 10 meters and 2 meters with no adjustment, have to wait to try 220 and 440 but should be no problem.
Construction is as described and made well.
This will be a nice general use antenna in the shack and am glad i purchased.
Thanks and 73's
