Great Rack(s)! |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
I am a long-term customer of NovexComm, and for good reason. I have been buying custom rack mounts for years and they all have been great.
Recently I had them make several custom panels for my racked shack. I emailed Scott there and told him what I wanted. There was a question about the sizes of a couple of the radios and a power supply so I sent them to him for exact fitting. A week later the new panels arrived with the items already mounted in the one. The others were for more standard sized radios (Icoms and DIN).
We had several back and forth emails to make sure the panels were just as I wanted them and CAD drawings were sent to be sure I approved before the cutter hit the metal.
I have purchased over a dozen custom sized panels from NovexComm over the years. Every one was exactly the way I wanted. They are not cheap but they are worth the cost. |

Excellent communication and customer service. |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
For years I had been operating backpack portable with my trusty FT-857D, matching LDG YT-100 tuna, MFJ-4416 battery booster. The rig was in a frame I got off Ebay and stuffed into a canvas backpack. It did not provide a lot of protection for the rig. And I really didn't hike with it. So I contacted Novexcomm and asked for a price quote for a go-box. Scott, KD8PIQ/6, quickly contacted me and over a few emails he provided me with a custom go-box design that was within my budget. Kudos to Scott and his team for great communication, working with me on the custom design, and overall great customer service. They made me a go box that is very functional, high quality, customized to my rig, and with a dash of bling to make it fun. It was a great experience and I highly recommend Novexcomm.

Poor workmanship and quality |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
I bought two rack units. One for a 7300, and one for a 7200. I ordered the products based on the one that I bought from this company over 12 years ago. I bought one for my IC-R7100 receiver. It came assembled, of good quality, and placing the radio in the rack was easy, everything was included. It was a quality product, a bit on the expensive side, but worth it. That was then, and this is NOW. What I received was a pile of cut and bent metal, bags with screws and angle brackets, handles, and instructions that were clearly wrong, and for a product the owner tells me they no longer make. I assembled (or tried to) the unit for the 7300. Holes for the brackets (an extra charge) were punched in the wrong place on two of the four brackets. The instructions don't even mention this. The screws supplied were too long by at least 3/4 of an inch and could not be installed. Ok, sure, I am going to home depot and buy the things I need to complete this mess. Yes, I have a drill, and I can take it all out to the work bench and drill the holes in the proper places. Overall, the workmanship of this product is sloppy, and demonstrates a lack of caring for the products or the customer. I called the company and spoke with Bob, who told me he is the owner. He went on forever with a defense of all of the issues. He blamed manufactures for changing their designs, and holes in new places? Really, on an IC-7300? He said he got 1000 free screws from the manufacturer and that is the only reason he included them. This is not inexpensive stuff, and my expectation is that I should receive an assembled (for the most part) unit, with all the holes in the right places. He told me the shipping cost would go up. I pointed out that it would be the same weight, and
roughly the same size box. I got one defense of the indefensible after another. I asked for what I though was a simple solution. Send me the right length screws and replaced the brackets that were incorrectly punched. He wouldn't do that. So, after spending a lot of money, I will have to spend more, and manufacture my own brackets. Will I have a nice product when I'm done? Pretty much, but if I had known their products are now done this haphazard, poorly fabricated, and unsupported way, and that I would have to go to home depot for screws, and angle stock, I wouldn't have done business with them. When I was denied the proper brackets and screws, I felt that it was important to detail my experience. In my opinion, if you order a $150 product, you'll get a $50 dollar value. Don't expect support, I couldn't even get the screws and brackets replaced. Think about the worst piece of do-it-yourself assembly furniture you ever struggled with from a discount store, and you will understand. The rack mount I bought over 12 years ago would have rated 5 stars, what I received this time is barely worth 1 star. |

Not sure how they stay in business! |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
I purchased a pristine looking dual CDM1550 rack mount on Ebay from this company. What was pictured in the Add was a gorgeous, professionally done rack-mount. What i received was what appeared to be a hole riddled, oxidated "thing" that appears to have been found in a junkyard! It does not even resemble the advertised picture. The tray had 78 holes drilled that make no rhyme or reason. Numerous holes overlap each other and elongated. Its as if I was teaching my son how to drill on a piece of scrap metal. The expensive and difficult to engineer corner mounts are nothing more than Lowes garage door hanging strap at 26 cents a linear foot. I assumed that it was just something that got accidentally sent out by an employee so I took a bunch of photos and sent them to "Bob". What I got back was a lengthy diatribe of the R&D and engineering process that goes into making rack-mounts and a complete lack of ownership of the problem his company sent me. Due yourself a favor, go to lowes and by a sheet of aluminum and a hole saw, Harbour freight for a $25 hand-brake and I assure you a rank beginner can produce a higher quality part.
Shame on this company and its treatment of fellow hams. |

Apparently the service level and quality are floundering |

I purchased three racks last week and they came in today. One for an Icom 7200 plus the external speaker, a dual Yaesu FT-7900 mount, and a custom mount with one side for a Motorola XPR-5550 and the other side for an LDG AT-200proII. First, the 7900 faceplate was marked up along two edges. It was packed in bubble wrap, so the damage happened prior to packing. Quality control should have caught it. Next, the LDG cutout was too small and the unit wouldn't fit. I notified Bob at Novexcomm and the final answer was this:
"RATZ….this tells us that LDG strikes again. Here is a cut and paste from their website specs at this link: http://www.ldgelectronics.com/c/252/products/17/3/2
Enclosure: 9.5D x 7.1W x 2.0H inches
Clearly they don’t know their own product so we go by what YOU have vs. what they think they made…
Choices of course are either file it at your house (yeech but it works for small adjustments) or send it back and we will mill out whatever amount you want; but since we have never seen one we go by what they (and you) tell us to do.
NEVER a good scenario…but we have learned in the past that they may not own a ruler. We will have to update our files to include yet another bogus factory spec. Don’t trust those guys!"
So, they have never actually taken measurements, which makes it very hard to engineer anything that requires close tolerances. Now, I have to file the hole out and it will look shoddy, or pay even more than the $500 I already paid (with a power supply) to send it back because the measurements were never made on an actual unit. I know everyone else seems happy with their units, but the quality and customer service were obviously not important on the order I placed.

I have now bought mounts for my Kenwood TS-590SG, a Kenwood TM-D710GA, an MFJ 989D and a Yaesu FT-736R.
While there where minor issues, their customer service more than made up for it. (It's hard to get everything perfect, every time, especially on custom jobs.) However, with Bob's help, I was indeed able to make every single one of them work, in the way I wanted the end result to look.
I will be the first to admit, this is not a cheap solution, and it will always require you to do a little bit of work, to mount the radios in the tray and attach the faces, but it sure is worth it. I'll be posting photos of my new shack build on my QRZ Page next week. |

Novexcomm is another top-notch company that deserves an excellent review. I have purchased several mounts for receivers over the years to include double DIN mounts and most recently a mount for an Icom IC-R7100 receiver that includes a built-in speaker. This has made for an extremely neat, functional, and attractive installation in a 19" rack.
Bob is very responsive to questions, products are shipped fast and are of consistently high quality. This company is a pleasure to do business with and I look forward to future purchases as I have a few "custom" situations that need to be addressed to finish up racking everything.

Over the past couple years the agency I work for has purchased 20 dual radio rack mounts that fit the Motorola XTL and APX series of dash mount radios. The work performed is outstanding. If you are involved in building an Emergency Operations Center or Mobile Command Post I highly recommend you purchase racks from NOVEXCOMM you will not be disappointed.
In fact my next project will be to clean up our HF gear and reduce clutter, hope to order more at that time. |

I purchased two rack shelves from Dick about 3 years ago, one for my Icom Pro II and one for my FT-847. I am finally getting around to putting a front panel on my FT-847 and had several questions for Dick which he quickly answered for me. If you have a rack or are thinking of getting one, I highly recommend what Dick has to offer. |
