The best 10m vertical ever.			Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I operate several 10m beacons. Most of my beacons are located on mountain tops with high winds, ice, searing heat, baking sun, you name it. I have tried the A99, the Imax 2000 (HOT performer!) and the Anttron 305 amongst others. The first Shakespeare 318-GBT 'Pogo Stick" I ever bought was amazingly tough. I ended up giving it away years ago to a new ham who wanted a slim profile antenna at his parents' house. I regretted giving away that antenna. I saw one new in box on that evil online auction site, so I highball bid on it and won. Then, I bought another, and another. I eventually replaced all my other beacon antennas with Pogo Sticks, and each time, I saw a very noticeable improvement in signal. If you double up the lower aluminum section (double wall tubing), the antenna takes 100 MPH+ winds with very little wiggle. The antenna looks as if there is no wind at all. The bandwidth is tremendous, covering 26.?? to 29.?? MHz. under 3:1. Tuning is just a tiny bit touchy if you have a lot of other metal around it, but a breeze if it is in the clear. Most of the time, I remove the three little twigs on the vertical in my installations, and the antenna still works just fine. It only requires slight retuning after that, and the bandwidth narrows slightly. In my case, since they are operating on only one frequency (beacon!), I don't care about a slightly narrow bandwidth. Still, it is much wider than the 5/8 wave aluminum groundplane antennas. My beacons are often heard when others are not, the signals are measurably better with the Pogo Sticks over the A99's. MUCH better! Memo to Shakespeare- WHY did you stop making the Pogo Stick??? This was the BEST 10m (or 11m) antenna I ever laid eyes on. Please, oh PLEASE bring it back! I pay 100 bucks sometimes for these (I hate that auction site), but I never feel ripped off. One of my Pogo Sticks has been up over 3 years and still works and looks brand new without signs of fiberglass splintering. Shakespeare knows fiberglass! and, this antenna is a real winner. Like their ad said, "The perfect combination of fiberglass and aluminum".

I’ve had the pogo stick antenna for several years stored in my basement. After moving I needed something I could put up fast and easy. This antenna is light and it made it very easy for two people to hoist it on a 40ft rohn tower. The transmit was good and the receive was fair. The receive may have been better with if I had the radial kit that came with the antenna. I’m actually impressed with the good condition of the bottom fiberglass section for its age. Great back up antenna!

I bought this Antenna in my Chicken Bander days,put it up on my roof and had great results with it.After getting sick of the Cb I took it down and stored it. When I got my General ticket,I decided to reassemble it and tuned it for 10 meters.I added a groundplane(consisting of (8),8ft pieces of wire) ,put it on 16.5 ft of mast then ,bolted it to my clothesline pole.<----(Yeah,My nieghbors loved that :) The results were excellent,with an Swr of 1.3 on the bottom of the band and a 1.4 on the top of the band,makes me glad I kept it. Guessing you could probably alternatively tune it for 12 meters rather then 10 (never both),but,have never tryed it. According to the specs.,it has 3 Db of gain . Good luck finding any literature on it,I've searched the net with no luck and made a request (via) shakespeare and never got a response.. (oh Well) My next trick, will be to put down a ground plane and load the whole thing for 40 meters. If you want a good 10 meter vertical, this is definitly it. 73's Eric N3TVV Jim Thorpe,Pa
