I needed a dependable weather radio for the house. I chose the Midland WR-100 primarily because of its S.A.M.E. capability. Specific Area Message Encoding (S.A.M.E.) This weather radio monitors and issues NOAA alerts warning you of hazardous conditions for your particular area. The Weather Alert feature of this unit works great. I like the fact the unit can be custom programmed so it only alerts for desired counties and desired events (i.e. Tornado, T-storm, Flood, etc.) Programmable for weather and hazard alerts in up to 25 counties. Sensitivity is great on the WX band. I don’t even have the telescopic antenna erected all the way and I still get great reception. Radio has a large Top-Firing Speaker and the weather broadcast audio is decent quality, which is lacking in some weather radios.

A "standard" weather radio would be sounding off almost continuously during severe weather events. Using the S.A.M.E. coded messages makes it much more useful.

I also like the modern styling and its portability. It has a battery backup and comes with its own DC wall adapter for home use. Has colored coded alert lights and visual indicator for each alert level, stays on for the duration of alert. The programming is straightforward and you can customize your monitor in just a few minutes.

The list price is $49.95. If you check the internet you can pay from $31.95 to $49.95. Don't forget to ad shipping and handling.

Some additional Alerts:

Child Abduction Emergency (Amber Alert)
Immediate Evacuation
Local Area Emergency
Biological AREA Warning

Telescopic Antenna.

Compact, Ultra Modern Styling. Small enough to take along with you. Looks good anywhere.

I've recommended it to everybody that I work with.

S.A.M.E. Plus Excellent Operation Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Living in Houston (Harris County), Texas, I needed a dependable weather radio for the house. I chose the Midland WR-100 primarily because of its S.A.M.E. capability. The local NOAA weather radio issues alerts for over 15 counties. A "standard" weather radio would be sounding off almost continuously during severe weather events. Using the S.A.M.E. codes for only 2 counties (Harris and Galveston) makes it much more useful. I also like its portability. It has a battery backup and comes with its own DC wall adapter for home use. The programming is straightforward. I've recommended it to almost everybody that I work with.
