	Description: The Rock-Mite design grew out of a desire to offer a one-evening CW transceiver kit which would be both affordable and easy to construct. The Rock-Mite is a crystal-controlled direct-conversion transceiver operating on 7040 KHz, 14060 KHz, 3579 or 3686 Khz. (note: there are different transceivers for the different bands) It has an 8-pin PIC microcontroller on-board which controls a T-R offset on key-down. A brief tap of a pushbutton control switch reverses the offset to yield a second operating frequency. Pushing and holding on the pushbutton activates the speed adjustment routine for the built-in Iambic keyer. If you'd rather use an external keyer or straight key, there's a drop-through mode which allows use of an external keying source. The Rock-Mite is small enough to fit into an Altoids tin. Just do a web search for Rockmite and see how popular this mighty transceiver has become.

Excellent Kit			Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I used the 40, 20 and 30 meter RM kits to enhance my building skills for my attempt at building a K2. But found that these kits are amazing in their own right. I learnt so much about kit building and with the help of the easy to use instructions I completed each kit in record time. On one occasion I had a slight soldering problem and contacted Small Wonder Labs who were very helpful in giving me advice, even with me being in the UK. I now have regular qso's with European stations, my furthest contacts have been Mongolia, a good distance from my QTH. I'd highly recommend these kits.

Hi! After finish my RM20 "Rocky Twenty" i decide on RM30 "Rocky Thirty". This KIT is very easy, just ready carefully instructions , at the end you will be surprise by your capabilities and on the QRP Transceiver. I recomend for sure. I purchased my RM40 back in April, though it took 3-4 weeks to get to me, once it arrived I was very impressed with the packaging and organization of everything enclosed. No issues with the assembely, plenty of information can be found on the web (Which is what I like to see). If you chose to order the accessory package which comes with the connectors needed, you'll be ready to go...I elected to use the bannana poles also for a direct connect for a wire antenna. Low noise floor with the crystals, CW signals were easy to hear with ear buds in, but hooked up to an external speaker the sound was very weak due to the lack of an audio amplifier circuit (No real need for me anyway). This is a very simple tranciever to build, everyone should have one of these RM's just becuase.

I built the Rock-Mite 40 a few years back and it still provides great service. I had a confirmed contact that was 1100 miles from my QTH with 300 mw power out from the Rock-Mite, or 3600 miles/watt! This is a great little rig!

Great radio in a small package			Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This was a great kit to put together. I've had one several years now and I use it every now and then and it works just fine. I earned my 1000 mile per watt award on it. The kit went together in a night or two. One night to solder everything and another night to mount it in a project case, attach jacks, etc. This is a great kit for anyone who wants to try kit building and isn't sure of their skills to take on something larger. The pc board is very good quality and the directions were clear and easy to follow. I like the built-in keyer functionality. Also, having that "second" frequency is nice too. I've made quite a few contacts on the little radio and I think I may pick up another to try another band sometime. Mine is on 7040. Hope to see you there! 72,

Fairly Easy kit, worked first try...			Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
For a single channel kit, this has a lot of interesting features, including a built-in keyer that seems to work great. Pretty easy to build; mine took two sessions of roughly 90 minutes each. The one surface mount chip is the only thing that provdes much of a challenge during building. Even the inductors are encapsulated--no toroids to wind. No real air time yet, but the receive is good and on the test bench it puts out a massive 340 mW on 7030. Definately get the optional "connectors and controls"; you would spend that much on gas looking for the rest of the parts. The only change I made is to use a 1/4" jack for my paddles, so it matched my other rigs/keyers. I have more details and photos on my project page at http://www.qsl.net/w6dps

Local broadcast problems			Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I have built 2 of this radios, one to me and other to a friend. I get the same "Local-broadcast-AM" problem on the 2 units, with an 1uH inductor on the antena to groud the broadcast problem was gone.

Excellent introduction to kit building! I've built 2 (30m) (40m) and have had success with both! Even an intro. smt 8-point connection required! (not as bad as I thought) As an added value, spring for the wiring/volume/shift package at 12$ and you will have a real operable radio! Probably an intermediate level due to the size & finesse required... Dave offers a comprehensive step-by-step guide within the manual & even covers areas for modification.... Yahoo/Google will reveal numerous mods available.(vxo, power to 1+ watt, etc...) Stock includes an iambic a/b mode keyer and freq. shift for cw receive & 500mw out! Operation requires the ability to learn to shift off zero beat in order to be copied. (the push of a button.) From N. Georgia, my furthest qso was Manitoba on 500mw! Great rig! Great Price!!
