Great, portable, amazing rig! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Now this is a rig! After messing around with a cheap version of handheld SW receiver, I saw this one. I have the RS DX-398, the generic version of the Sangeon AT909. This thing works! I use a giant loop antenna, about 300 feet total, and can get New Zealand, Russia, all the places all the stations, and it doubles as my receiver when I go out "QRP". It copies CW great, great at SSB, LSB and USB. Its "fine tuning" sensitivity at 40 Hz is pretty good, especially when my old Drake R4A is about 250Hz on a good day! It uses 4 AA batteries, and they last a good long time. I have a solar charger that helps out with the battery situation. It charges them all the time when its sunny out!
For the price ($199.99 on sale) it can not be beat. Get this rig!

Great Little Portable Rx.!!! Time Owned: unknown months.
If you are looking for a great little go anywere general coverage receiver that works great and does a very good job with SSB this is a great little package. The SSB is tuned in true USB and LSB modes, in fine 40 Hz. steps or on fast 1 Khz.steps making it easy to tune around the band then zero in on the station on fine steps. I find the sensitivy to be great I live in a mobile home with aluminium siding a good shield! and the little Dx 398 picks up a lot of signals if I am near the window and it is a lot better if you have a simple wire antenna outside the window. The current drain is a lot better than a lot of people think 65ma.on AM and FM 72 ma. on SSB idling and 125 ma average at fairly loud audio. The only flaw in the ATS909 and DX398 a minor flaw here but a major one in Alaska is that the time zone is incorrect but is correct for Alantic Canada. That is because you have to have correct local time zone for the world time zones to be correct. I have The Radio Shack Dx398 version picked it while it was on sale last Nov. great price when on sale $199 us $299 cdn.
