If it breaks you are finished!! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I really needed this generator this past winter. Lots of ice, -2 degrees outside and no power for 5 days!!! Started on the 2nd pull and I thought all was fine, but then I noticed a puddle of gas under the generator! The float bowl gasket on the carb was leaking. I checked everyone that sold or serviced Yamaha in Cincinnati, but no one had a gasket for the thing. I received the same story everywhere I called. "Got to order it from Yamaha. It will take 2 weeks." Note: There is no such thing as a carb kit. You have to order each part individually. Glad I had a 2nd generator. The Japanese generators have a lot going for them, but locally available spare parts is NOT one of them. To be fair it is a 5 when it is working correctly. My 0 is for the spare parts situation. Keep a Briggs and Stratton generator around as a 2nd generator. Not as reliable many will say, but if you need a part you may be able to get one or if all else fails rob what you need off of a lawnmower!

I have had one of these for a little while and it is a tough, RF and ignition quiet unit that if taken care of will outlast you! The only issue is replacement parts cost and availability. In an emergency a unit with an old Briggs and Strattion may be a better choice in that you will be able to scrounge a needed part from a lawnmower if it breaks down. You will not do this with a Honda or Yamaha! B&S engines are in almost every garage.
