priceing Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
i find the software to be excellent but what good is it if no one purchases it because the cost is prohibited.especially those of us on fixed incomes .retires which a large portion of the cw ops are at the retirement age.it is a shame that ham gear is priced out of reach for those of us who are not rich.i do have a couple of programs that do work almost as good as mrp that cost in the twenty dollar range, mixw being one of them and it is just as gud if not better considering all that it does and it does it gud .i was abt to purchase it and so were my club members but 60 dollars is a bit much for just a cw program.norbert come down on the price and you will probably quaddrupal your sales .agn tnxs fer ur contribution to our fine hobby .just wish more of us could use it .BOB W B 8 D G K

Best CW decoder available Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have been using this program for almost seven years now, ever since MRP38 which was the original DOS based CW program. I have tried a number of alternatives, both other software (CwGet, MixW, etc.), and hardware (Kamtronics, MFJ, etc.). I use it partly as a backup for copying high-speed and noisy CW, as well as providing a good hardcopy automatically of the QSO on my computer for logging purposes. The spectrum display on the computer is also really useful for tuning and zero-beating your rig.

This is definitely, hands-down, absolutely the best available system for CW copy in QRM and poor sending currently available, short of the human ear itself. Your ear will always be best, but MRP comes surprisingly close!

Other software systems typically fail because of QRM, poorly formed CW and/or frequency drift. The decoding algorithms in MRP40 just seem designed much better to handle this. I have found most hardware alternatives to be pretty useless, plus they don't provide a hardcopy of the QSO.

Most negative comments about this software fall into these categories:

1. This is neither freeware nor shareware, and the author protects his Intellectual Property aggressively with a short and unbreakable trial period. Expect to pay for a license and also to pay for software upgrades and when you upgrade your computer.

2. There is only one author and he alone provides all support. I must say, though, that the 2-3 times that I needed technical support over the years, he has always been very responsive and friendly.

3. All CW software requires a fairly fast computer and a good soundcard. Although I am comfortably using a 4-year old Pentium III machine, anything slower really won't work at all well with MRP40, especially the graphics. You will also notice "jerky" CW send if the computer is slow.

4. It only works CW - there again, that is exactly its strong point since most of the value of MRP lies in its specialized CW reading algorithms...

If you are OK with these four main points, I can recommend this software to you unreservedly. It is very good value and performs as well as current technology allows.

See you on 40m / 80m CW !

Like Decoder Program Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This morse decode program will copy sloppy code better than any other program that I have tried.
The graphic display does a very good job of showing the user whats going on. The AFC is a nice feature for tuning. Does track speed well.

Great CW program Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I used MRP38 which was a DOS based CW program and it was great. Now MRP40 runs under windows and it also works great. I have tried many hardware and software decoders and this one is the best. Most of the hardware ones were poor. I had a Kantronics TNC that had a decoder and it was very poor. This program has automatic frequency and speed tracking. The frequency tracking can be turned off for use in a pileup. This is needed so the program will not switch to stations calling close to the DX station.

Poor and expensive Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I used the trial version of the program. I played with it for about 10 minutes on 2 occasions on the first day and that was it.

It wouldn't start up any more from the second day onwards. Even now, it still has 3 days of the trial period left but it just won't go, no matter how long I wait.

I thought of buying the program to get around this problem but when I saw the price I decide it wasn't for me. No program is worth that sort of money, especially with the exchange rates of the Aussie dollar.

A/B Comparison w/ CWGet and MixW Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
MRP40 was inviting but failed when I was doing a/b comparisons over a period of time (1 week) The authors have incorporated a ever increasing time delay in the trial software and waiting 30 seconds for the program to activate was intolerable. It is not that I am not sympathetic to why they would feel the need to do this, but it makes a true evaluation impossible. I will continue to evaluate MixW and CWGet.

Works great for me Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I am using this program, now, during the November 2004 CQWW DX contest, and it works great! When receiving code at speeds of 35-40+ WPM from the anchor stations, I find this program very useful for copying call signs and reports and/or verifying call signs and reports that I copy in my head. I tried it on two laptops: a (newer) Dell Inspiron 600m, and an (older) Dell Inspiron 3800. The product worked much better with the older Dell Inspiron 3800... but this appears to be a result of having a much better sound card in the Dell Inspiron 3800. So... I suggest that you use this in conjunction with a decent sound card.

Best regards

Sensitive in hardware changes Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Not happy with this software. Each time when you make some changes in your PC, new HDD or new bios version etc, you have to ask from Norbert a new key. After 2 times “bothering” him and when I received his unpleasant comment, I decided to go further with CwGet which is not sensitive about PC configuraion and is very good in decoding.

Works very well for me Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have tried all of the CW transmitting and receiving software. I have nerve damage in my hands and find sending CW much easier with a keyboard then with a key.

Though I can copy CW at 25 wpm in my head, the MRP4060 software can fill in the blanks when the DX station temporarily QSB's into the noise, especially on 80 and 160 meters. It can make the difference between getting that RST report or not.

I have a 733 mhz computer with 512 megs of RAM and have not experienced any jerkiness or slow downs in the software. However I do shut down all other programs except my logging program and disconnect from the Internet. That might make the difference.

I highly recommend the MRP4060 software but it is a little on the pricey side at $65.00 U.S. in February 2004. But heck we Hams are a cheap lot!

VERY GOOD! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Used many CW decoding programs - CWGET, MixW,WriteLog but it better for weak signal.
