Review Summary For : Kessler Engineering AT-AUTO
Reviews: 88MSRP:
Description:
Production of the legacy AT-AUTO was halted per court-enforced settlement and to facilitate product improvement and redesign.

Kessler Engineering continues to service and support the legacy AT-AUTO, and is continuing to develop and release new firmware, which is freely available from the Kessler Engineering website for use on any AT-AUTO.

Although temporarily out of production, this is still very much an active product.

The revised AT-AUTO builds upon the capabilities of the legacy AT- AUTO and will debut shortly. Please contact Kessler Engineering directly for support and information.

Thanks, Don ki6sz@sbcglobal.net

3 year review Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have a very complex station, with over a dozen rigs all with linears and many antennas. But any RF that goes to any antenna goes through my antenna tunner. Until a short time ago I had a very fancy and expensive tunner in series with my AT-AUTO...just in case.. operating in the by-pass mode. The amount of RF pumped through the AT-AUTO has been amazing. It has never failed me. Thanks Palstar.

Excellent Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is a great tuner. I love it.

Powered it up from an Astron SS30 I had as a spare. Intermittently the power would cycle off. The supply had been working fine with a xcvr before, so I suspected the tuner. After several conversations with Don (the designer) at Palstar, I switched to a different power supply and problem gone. Turned out the supply was bad. Don's concern for his product and level of support was outstanding. How often can you reach the product designer when you need technical support?

I really can't say enough good things about this tuner. The Palstar ads and website don't begin to do the product justice in terms of features and performance. Maybe not as fast tuning as the relay type tuners, but it's quieter. A satisfying humming sound. Once you tune a frequency it goes into memory and that's it.
Too bad I only need one tuner, or Palstar would make another sale.

As Advertised! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Owned for only two weeks, but long enough to state that this high power automatic tuner delivers, as advertised. Operates seamlessly with Alpha 87A.

Had a few questions both before and after the purchase, and received very prompt, courteous and responsive answers from Palstar.

It can't get any better Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I'm don't have much to add to the other good reviews.

This is an expensive tuner, but it does everything one can wish for in a tuner, and it does it very well.

It has every auto-control interface one can think of. It can just measure the frequency you are transmitting on, or it can connect to the ICOM tuning connector on the radio, or it can read the frequency the radio is using via the CIV or the COM port.

Specs says it can handle 1500 watts, so you won't outgrow it when you buy an amplifier. It can automatically cut the PTT signal to the amp if the SWR is too high.

It also can tune a larger impedance mismatch compared to my LDG tuner.

There wasn't any software to control the tuner via a computer, so I wrote a java program to control the tuner via its CIV or its COM port. It is available on the yahoo support group's file section.

This is the BEST of the Best Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
OK, after operating MFJ,and many other tuners, this is the best tuner on the market today!!!! I hate spending this much money but I would and WILL do it again if I need to! Thank You Palstar! You will not be disapointed if you buy one!

EVERY HAM SHACK SHOULD HAVE ONE! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
After years of frustation fiddling with knobs and dials and such on manual tuners, I actually jumped into the 21st. century with the Palstar AT-AUTO. This tuner is amazing and should be a must-have for every ham station out there. The tuner is rugged, quiet, reasonably fast and built like a tank with "real" tuner components. No clanking relays or under-valued parts either. This a real tuner, AUTOMATED! You basically set it and forget it and it follows you around the bands with ease. You hardly know it's doing it's job, and if you look at the available auto-tuners out there, the Palstar is in a class by itself.
The real beauty of the Palstar is that it communicates with most modern tranceivers via a serial port for auto-bandswitching. "Vintage" rigs without serial com. can also be used by supplying a small amount of carrier. And how many manual tuners out there can you flash upgrade through ROM?? Awesome unit.

Quiet and works great! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I had a Palstar manual tuner and loved it so my first choice was a Palstar for an auto tuner. It tunes as well as my manual tuner did and is quiet as a mouse. I love the way it follows me around the frequencies when I use it with Ham Radio Deluxe. It always knows where I am so that I do not have to transmit for it to read my frequency. Saves a heck of a lot of time in tuning. The best part is that there is no clacking of relays to wake the wife or scare the dogs. :)

I have a feeling that this sturdy tuner, along with a few other items in my shack, will be with me for a long time to come. After all, when you have the best, there is nowhere else to go but down.

Works well Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've had this tuner, my first tuner actually, for about a year. It sat in the box for many months and I briefly considered selling it, even before using it. Nevertheless, finally decided to unpack and give it a try. Initially purchased it after switching from a Steppir to an Optibeam, where I needed to use a tuner for the non-resonant end of 40 meters (resonate at cw end of band). Anyhow, it works perfect. The unit interfaces well with my Icom xcvr and either tunes or calls up stored memory settings very quickly. Also use it to fine tune my wire antennas, which it does well. The auto tune feature is great. The workmanship and finish are high quality. I wish I had the same on my amplifier!

Built Like a Tank ! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This auto tuner tunes my 250', 450 ohm ladder line dipole from 10 meters to 160 meters in 45 seconds. No relay clatter, just stepper motors quietly finding 1.05 to 1 and saving the setting. It works as advertised and compliments the shack. Buy Palstar, built in the USA.
