Review Summary For : CirKits SCC3 Solar Charge Controller Kit
Reviews: 5MSRP: 50
Description:
The SCC3 kit is the heart of a 12 Volt solar power system, it regulates the charging of batteries from photovoltaic (PV) solar panels. Regulated charging greatly extends the life of rechargeable batteries when compared to systems with a direct PV-battery connection.

Excellent Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Much more efficient than the Chinese and some others I've had. I have two working, one 20 amp for about two years and one for 40 amp few days ago, this controls three solare panels 150 w each. Of course, you have to assemble the kit but it's pretty easy to do.

Works well Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I was looking at all the different designs on the net, this one seemed well designed, so I bought one to try out. It took me about 2 hours to assemble and worked as advertised. Gave it a 4 as the circuit could use some updating, because through hole parts may not be available for much longer as SMD is the way to go, and so easy to do.
Used the basic design for my own CC using a micro.
Thanks for a solid kit that was fun to put together and should last a life time.

Great kit! fits the need Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought this kit for all of the reasons stated in the design goals of the seller. "efficiency, simplicity, reliability and the use of field replaceable parts."
The kit was an easy build. No surface mount parts!!
The 25 turn setting resistor provides precision setting of the float voltage. You can set for lead acid at 14.5 V or adjust setting for Gel cell at 13.8 V. This is an excellent well thought out kit and I will be buying a few more for other projects outside of ham radio.

I considered lower cost off the shelf solutions but chose this for its capability and repair using off the shelf easy to install parts.

If you are going solar and do your own electronic repair then this kit is the solution.

Neat and useful little kit Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
This is a pretty fast building little solar charge controller kit. I had it together in about 2 hours, and then spent the next few days getting it adjusted as I had to make the adjustments while it was charging some pretty flat batteries. Adjustment is super simple - just turn the muliturn pot so the light turns green at the cut off voltage.

I did have some issues with the build instructions though - the large parts get put on first, then the components have to be wedged in between them. I don't have the proverbial fat fingers, but even I had problems to get some of the parts in. Hopefully the build instructions will be changed to do it the other way! Other than this one small complaint, the build went smoothly.

The controller has been perking away without issue for the past few months. It does a really nice job of going into sleep mode when the sun goes down, and waking up and charging the batteries when it comes back up again.

It also creates no noticable QRM when it is charging.
