Steve Berman's services are excellent! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Steve rebuilt my tired 75S3C that I had bought on ebay. It was receiving poorly and needed cleaning, cap changes, alignment and lubrication, new tubes, and various other fixes and tweaks. Steve made my receiver play like new! I am extremely happy with it. He is also a wealth of knowledge regarding set up and use of the Collins line of equipment, and his communication skills are superb. I highly recommend his services!

More than Outstanding Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Steve brought my collins 30L-1 back to life and returned to me in better working condition than it had been. Also kept me informed and gave me several helpful working hints. Five Stars in not enough. You get what you pay for.

I am 66 years old and have been giving serious thought to procuring some Classic Collins Radio Gear so I made a call to Collins Precision Services and had a VERY enjoyable and informative conversation with Steve! I was very impressed with his technical expertise regarding the Collins S Line and appreciated his advice to do some research and develop a knowledge base before taking the plunge and acquiring any gear. I would highly recommend Precision Collins Services and look forward to acquiring some Classic Collins Gear for my station!!

Superb Collins S Line Repairs Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Most recently Steve resurrected a DOA 32S-3 transmitter with a challenging repair that ultimate led to the replacement of an intermittent IF transformer. his quality of workmanship is superb; he really gives this classic equipment the TLC it deserves, and at a reasonable hourly rate.

Great Service Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I sent Steve my KWM-2 that is part of a family heirloom Collins station (KWM-2, 30L-1,312B-5, 516F-2). While the gear looks great, it had been stored for the better part of 20 years in less than ideal conditions. After recapping everything and having it up and running for several months, the KWM-2 had a "smoke event" and died. Steve found the culprit, brought it back to life and did a full alignment and cleaning. It's now working like I remember when operating it as a kid at my uncles shack back in the 70's!

Communication throughout the process was excellent as Steve kept me up to date on his progress. I followed along with my schematic and was able to understand what he was doing. He was very patient with answers to my questions. So not only is the KWM-2 back up and running, I learned a few things about the inner workings and design of the radio. I've never had that experience with any other repair shop. The estimate was accurate, and the turn time was faster than quoted - I believe 3 1/2 weeks which included shipping time. When I initially contacted Steve and told him the story behind the station, he was kind enough to work it in and around his current obligations and that is much appreciated.

I would not hesitate to have Steve work on my other Collins gear!

The BEST! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've known Steve for 30+ years. He's always been a great friend and HAM colleague. After I moved to Texas from Southern California my Collins 32S-3 developed transmitting problems. When I called Steve for advice, we tried a few troubleshooting basics over the phone, but alas it had to make the trip to his bench. Good thing, too! There were several bugs that had to be fixed and now back home, it's working beautifully--like new! Steve is a great guy, reasonably priced, and a super tech. I highly recommend him for your Collins repairs. He's THE BEST!

Excellent Service! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
When I recently had a problem with my S-Line receiver I knew immediately I needed an experienced technician to fix the problem. Imagine my surprise when I discovered my old friend, Steve Berman, N6HK, was now specializing in S-Line repair work. I've known Steve for about 40 years....we did a lot of hamming, DXing, and CW contesting together, but we lost track or each other along the way. When I contacted him we had a great discussion about our old ham days, and eventually the conversation turned to my equipment problem. Steve had some ideas about these problems immediately, and it was obvious to me I needed to send it to him for repairs. He promptly sent a very thorough estimate, which included a total checkout, recapping, and alignment. The receiver was serviced, and promptly returned to me, and it has never sounded better! To make a long story short, I'm now using an entire S-Line that has been totally serviced by Steve. He was easy to do business with, his estimates were accurate, and his work is first-class. I can only say great things about Precision Collins Services, and Steve Berman. I will definitely send more business his way when it becomes necessary. Thanks to N6HK for a great job!

Aren't we lucky! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
The great thing about our hobby, is that there are people who become experts in our aging equipment! Ham radio is unique in that most equipment produced in the last 70 years can still be used, right alongside new gear. Try THAT with your Computer! BUT, our old gear is often no longer serviced by the manufacturer, if they are even still in business.
Steve N6HK has made it his forte to service the Collins "S" line gear. He has been very willing to help guide me, a "repair wannabe" as I delved into my KWM2. Steve through his generous contribution to my queries obviously REALLY knows the "S" line. It's nice to know if you really get into trouble, or just want a perfect working "S" line, Steve is there to do a complete service to bring our treasured Collins "S" lines to as new condition.
Thanks Steve!
Aren't we lucky to have you there for us!

Excellent Service! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I purchased a 1962 vintage KWM-2 and after operating it for about 9 months, I heard the dreaded "snap". RX was OK, but no TX or grid drive. Since I was in the process of selling my company, there were others thing to occupy my thoughts at the time. So I called Steve and we chatted for a while. I sent it to him for a complete refurbishment. The M-2 had three separate failure modes including a shorted T-2 coil. Steve kept me in the repair loop as the failures were uncovered. I was amazed that Steve actually had a T-2 coil! I received it in excellent condition and it now performs to factory spec or better. I was able to verify the specs since I owned a calibration lab and still have access to the lab and equipment.

Just last week I was traveling from Los Angeles back to Boise and had the pleasure of meeting Steve in person, and had a great visit with him! Thanks for your hospitality Steve!
