Great old workhorse! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
It's unfair to compare this with modern radios. When this was released in the early to mid 1970s it was top of the line. I use mine for simplex voice, both ssb and fm and it works pretty good. I also it for cw, where it also works pretty good. It seems to fairly stable thanks to the PLL circuitry. The thing is built like a tank. I run mine from an external 12 volt supply as the internal supply has quite a bit of hum and could probably use a rebuild. You can use it to access repeaters but there is no PL tone or DTMF tone. The later model could run simplex, and + or - offset, as well as SSB, CW and FM. The +/- vxo control gives you continuous coverage in an otherwise channelised radio. Tuning is via click wheels, one for each of MHz, 100 KHz, 1-9 KHz and +/- 7 KHz vxo. I love using it for cw, as it renders an old school clackety clackety, very dynamic!

Very good rig for SSB 2 Meter Digital Modes Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I use my ITC (FDK) Multi-2000 for 2 meter WSPR on SSB. It is very stable and works well. I have had 2 way decodes on WSPR digital mode at 800 km with this radio. I've also used it for APRS. It has wonderful audio tone (both TX and RX) on 2 meter FM. I recently received SSTV from the International Space Station (RS0ISS) on this rig with perfect clarity. It is inconvenient to tune the frequencies using the analog dials it has, but that is about the only problem I have with the rig. Also, it is missing CTCSS. Otherwise it works fine for FM repeaters, SSB phone and SSB Digital.

nice oldie Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I bought one on ebay. I had to repair/allign a few things. I use it for local chats.

You can not compare it to the modern rigs but it is still usable. Especially for fixed channel use. Scanning the band requires fidling with 4 knobs.

The FM filter is too wide for the 12.5 KHz raster we use over here. It does not like strong stations 100 KHz away either. The FM IF filter is a small ceramic filter. Replacing it may help.

I did not use it on SSB So I can to comment on that. It does have a decent xtal filter though.

It is a nice collecors item that is still usable.

Good very old 2m transciever Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is the first of the SSB-FM rigs on
Two meters. They were very reliable but
they where tuned up for around 146.000
Mhz ( We have 4 Megs in ZL on 2m )
They had no varcap tuning like the
FT221 and the Dial was hard to use
but they worked and I still use mine
today. They were called the Clock Work
Orange after the film and if you own
one you will see why. There where
lots of these units sold in Australia
and New Zealand. 73 Murray ZL3MH
