More Than Acceptable Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I was looking for the ICF-7600W, which overseas in eighties did stunningly good job. No luck. The closest I came was Sony ICF-7601 which is more than acceptable - with decent propagation and not living in condo built of ribar and concrete.
Favorites of all time are ICF-5900W, which sent back of the beam signal from Baguio transmitter to me in VOA building, and ICF-6800W attached to AN-1 antenna in garden, pulling in 7.5 KW signal from Hanoi domestic on 15010.

Though often disgusted by today's propagation, I will drop long wire out of three story condo up 350 feet above sea level. Then again, I am still N3FSH and have no reason not to try MFJ-1622. I expect no DX, although the world was coming in yesterday.

Super Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have to echo the good comments about this little radio. I even wrote a letter to Sony back in the day praising them for packing so much performance in a small, inexpensive package. Very sensitive and audio sounds great. Superb for the size and price.

Great Travel Receiver Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have had one family member and one friend that work(ed) for Sony and so I've had a string of Sony receivers (and other products too) at *very* favourable prices. I already owned a very fine ICF-2001d, but a decades old copy of "Passport to World Band Radio" spoke very well of the 7601. It said that it was the radio of choice for foreign correspondent journalists (and I think a USA president too- maybe George Bush Snr?) I confirm that it lasts well on battery power and importantly has a very decent warm audio output quality. This is really good for SW broadcast band listening. It's not that selective and being optimised for telescopic whip antenna, it struggles a little when hooked up to a length of wire. It became my travel radio of choice when deciding between it and the ICF-2001d. I knew it couldn't resolve SSB, but for travelling bulk considerations it had the edge- until I acquired an SW100 that is. It remains a better audio experience that the SW100, but sadly gathers dust these days. If one crops up at a giveaway price, I would still buy it.

Pretty good worldband radio for the price Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
The Sony ICF-7601 has been around since the 80's. They appear on ebay once in awhile, and I decided to bid for one several months ago. I got mine for $45.00 including shipping.

It runs on 4-AA batteries, and seems to last a long time on batteries.

Reception:
AM--Average to good. No DX machine, but good enough for normal listening. Requires an adaptor plug to hear through both sides of your earphones. You can get the plug at Radio Shack.
FM--Ok, no stereo though.
SW--This is what I wanted the radio for. Off the whip, it performs well for what I paid for it. I think it has a rf pre-amp, as it's pretty sensitive and a long wire attached to the antenna over loads it often.
No SSB.

I like the analog tuning, but it doesn't have memory. It has quite good SW coverage, from around 2.5 MHz to 26.1 MHz, but with gaps in the spectrum. But I don't mind, as most of the SW stations I like to listen to are covered by the radio. Overall, a good radio for under $50.00.
