Bright Lights....Big Knob....a real S-Meter! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I've owned my FT-2000 since the fall of 2007, and have been very happy with it...

My TS- 850 started having reoccurring "issues", so it was time to go into the "new radio search" mode.

I guess I must be "old school" as I still think of Yaesu and Kenwood as the "big players" in HF ham radio...
I just didn't find anything from Kenwood that excited me...

I noted the FT-1000s had become increasingly popular on the used radio "scene"
I had considered purchasing a used 1000, but it was time after being a ham since '74 to buy a NEW radio....
Besides, the 1000s had been out for several years....NO MORE USED RADIOS!

I am no connoisseur of amateur radio equipment, but I know what I like....
I must admit I have NOT seen a 756 Pro III up close..(it's rival, I have read)

I wanted a "big" rig with a cool, big, bright frequency readout ...a BIG knob and a REAL S-meter!....
Sounds silly?.....Maybe not....The folks at Yaesu must be in tune with hams who are my age (close to 50 and up)
It is a much neater rig sitting there ablaze on the desk then the 850 ever was!(sorry old friend)
It's ALMOST as cool as my ol' Collins "gold dust twins" ....almost... :)

This radio just FEELS right...

You can have it up and running in minutes, and play all you want later with all the other crap it has....
I will never learn of all it's features, but then again....who cares?....I'm the boss! :)

If you want to upgrade...and you want a REAL radio....go for it!

You only live once....

BTW...adjusted for price....This rig is not much more than my dad's NEW TS-520 in 1975 that was about 750 bucks CDN/USD

Oh yeah....it receives great! :)

Awesome Radio! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I purchased my FT-2000 on eBay, with DMU and some accessories, from someone who obvioulsy didn't like it. A great deal, much less than new. I, too, got lost and had to read the manual. I live in a high-noise area, and have been amazed by it's ability to eliminate, or reduce significantly, the noise. I have gotten nothing but superb comments on the Transmit audio. The DMU and 17" screen are so much better than the small screens built in to some radios. I am no expert on this radio, but in comparison to other radios I have used and owned, this one is, by far, the best (next best is my FT-1000MP, which I will not sell either!) It is complicated, with many menu items, which if set wrong can cause problems, but if you go slowly, one setting at a time, and keep the manual near the radio (simply reading it cover to cover will not do, you will need to refer to the manual frequently), you too will find that this is one incredible radio. 73 de Omer, AD7DY

EXCELLENT Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
ive had my ft2000 for 4 months now. got it bran new from hro in n.h. when i first got it i thought i would never learn all the funtions this radio has to offer. but with time and patience it all came together. if your a contester this radio has it all. an amszing recieve on all freqs and bands. when no one else can hear a station i hear them loud and clear. i had a pro11 before this one and thought it was great, but this radio will run circles around any radio on the market today. but i will say ,there is a real learning curve, at least for me. don;t hesitate to get one of these radios. tks dick aa1xu 73ss

Very nice Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought my FT-2000 exactly one year ago as a sort of a Christmas present to myself(HI) I have not had any problems with the radio so far and I would recommend it to all! I did not get around to updating the operating software yet,but I will do so in due course. To me it has the best sounding receiver that I have ever heard in any radio that I have previously owned.

FT-2000 is a really nice radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought my FT-2000 from the ARRL Auction in 2007. The auction price was too good to believe versus buying it from a dealer.

The FT-2000 is the best radio I have ever owned which is why I rate it a 5/5. The receiver is outstanding. It takes a lot reading the manual to understand all the features. I'm still not completely familiar with all the FT-2000 features. It has been proven outstanding in several contests that I have worked since getting the radio. I love the voice memory features that saves your voice during contests.
My only wish is that it covered 144 and 440 bands too.

I definitely recommend the FT-2000 to anyone looking for a really great radio.

Yaesu Can do much better Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Well, I have read the manual, several times. After spending $7000 for an FT-2000D, three MTU's and the DMU, the best I can say is the combination makes a wonderful attenuator. The latest problem is that the "D" starts transmissions with power spikes well over 200 watts (I will measure it) and these spikes are destroying a number of manufactures HF amplifiers.

VERY NICE TRANSCEIVER Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I haven't had much to say about this wonderful big nice looking transceiver. The TX audio and the receiver of FT-2000 is far superior than my previous rigs FT-920 and Mark-V field. For those people who have not owned one, give yourself a favor try it and you'll gonna love it.Don't be terrified with the bad earlier post as Yaesu has been addressed most of the issues of the earlier productions. For those people who do not like their FT-2000 there are many rigs out there sell your radio and move on!

some nice cw features Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I don't want to be too hard on the FT-2000, needless to say I very quickly sold it and replaced it with a TenTec OMNI VII which is in my opinion a superb radio. It has excellent qsk and it is easy to get good quality ssb etc etc - I could go on and on. When I eventually write a review for the OMNI VII it will most likely get a 5.

I liked the cw netting facilities and the contour control on the 2000 but what a fiddle to get good quality ssb, I never did succeed with this.

FT-2000 - Great Time Owned: more than 12 months.
In my opinion, ergonomically, there isn't a better radio on the market for working split in a pile-up than the FT-2000. I absolutely love the split/dual receiver mode of this radio. It is MUCH better than the "Dual Watch" function on the Icom PRO series. I think the filters are fantastic, easy to use and very effective, especially on CW. The transmit audio is wonderful, but does take some time to set up properly. I agree with the previous poster regarding the Contour control. If you set it up in the menu as a positive value, say 10 to 15, you will be amazed at how effective and useful the contour control is. The DNR works quite well, you just need to know how to use it. I have one of the earlier FT-2000s and the radio just keeps getting better with every firmware update. During a contest, the receiver on the FT-2000 does exceptionally well and much better than my PROIII in that type of environment. I enjoy my FT-2000 and find it to be one of the best radios that I have ever owned.

Earlier 5-star review posted by K2WO on 2006-10-31

I have now had my FT-2000 for approximately one month. I have found it to be excellent. The ergonomics are terrific and the receiver is outstanding. I found one small problem that I easily fixed.....the main tuning knob was too "tight". There was a simple fix posted on the Yahoo Groups FT-2000 User Group, I tried it and now the tuning is perfect and very adjustable.

I have seen some comments about the Speech Processor not working properly. I do find that it is "touchy" to set up, but it works as I think it was designed. The transmit audio is fantastic, but it takes some dedicated time to get the parametric eq set up properly. I find that the receiver is outstanding. It really showed it stuff in the CQWW last weekend. I switched between the FT-2000 and my PROIII and there was NO comparison. The FT-2000 wins hands down in every instance. I'm not knocking the PROIII, it is a great rig, but in a crowded band(i.e., Contest), the FT-2000 is the clear winner IMHO. Against an Orion I, the Orion seems better, but it is VERY close.

I rally like this rig. When the DMU unit is available, it should even be better. I recommend it highly.
