Review Summary For : MFJ-1775 6-Band Rotatable Mini-Dipole
Reviews: 19MSRP: $239.95
Description:
40/20/15/10/6/2 meter mini 14 foot rotatable dipole. Its tiny 7-foot turning radius fits on the smallest roof -- it’s perfect for town houses, apartments and condos.

The MFJ-1775 is inconspicuous and low profile -- not much bigger than a TV antenna and can easily be turned by a lightweight rotator like the HyGain AR-35.

The MFJ-1775 dipole directivity reduces QRM/noise and lets you focus your signal in the direction that you want -- so you can work some real DX. You can operate 6 bands -- 40, 20, 15, 10, 6 and 2 meters -- and run full 1500 Watts SSB/CW on all HF bands!

The MFJ-1775 features automatic band switching and uses highly efficient end-loading with its entire length always radiating. With 6 and 2 Meters thrown-in, you have ham radio’s most versatile rotatable dipole!

Each HF band uses a separate, efficient end-loading coil wound on fiberglass forms with TeflonTM wire, and capacitance hats at each end (no lossy traps). 6 and 2 meters are full-length halfwave dipoles.

Built-to-last -- incredibly strong solid rod fiberglass center insulator and 6063 T-6 aircraft strength aluminum tubing radiator.

Assembles in an afternoon. Adjusting one band has little effect on other bands.

Great antenna for home and camping Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I installed my antenna without 2m/6m and I used 72 inch aluminum tubes instead of the supplied 60 inch tubes. This greatly improved the 2 to 1 swr bandwidth on 40m and 20m. I also experimented with the tuning so rain has very little affect on it for my favorite frequencies. This little antenna performs very well and I would definitely recommend it. (may even try 84 inch aluminum tubes)

Update:
Finally got around to posting this.
1:1 SWR bandwidth with 72 inch aluminum tubes is as follows:
40 Meter: 85 KHz
20 Meter: 150 KHz
15 Meter: Entire Band
10 Meter: Entire Band
Please note this is 1:1 SWR bandwidth NOT 2:1.
When I bite the bullet for 84 inch aluminum tubes I will post the results.

Still working on it Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought this antenna and have it assembled on a temporary mast. Keep in mind keep away from a tower or any metal as it will interact with it. Tuning of 10 through 20 meters was very easy. 40 meters not great. Ordering new spokes to try something different. 6 meters tuned with some effort. Still trying to get 2 meters. Can't get anything close for resonance with it all the way out or in. Calling in an elmer for this. Materials look very good. Will update once I get it on the tower and working. Do not try to tune this without an analyzer like the mfj 259. You will pull your hair out.

UPDATE: Have had it up shortly after the review. Worked some great DX with this antenna. I would recommend this antenna for someone who wants a multiband antenna on a tower. SWR does shift a little with rain or ice but not out of tolerance for my auto tuner!!

Great antenna for temporary installation Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I needed antenna to:
(1) push up after dark on MaxGain fiberglass pole at my antenna restricted QTH,
(2) been able to zero in on the signals,
(3) been able to pour down the cable at least 500W.
MFJ-1775 fits the bill perfectly. Easy to assemble and tune with antenna analyzed (the must!). I covered the coils with electric tape to protect them from changing parameters in rain, no other modifications done. Operation-wise, it exhibits some directivity on 40m, more so on the shorter bands. With the antenna tuner, it also work on WARC bands. All in all, very positive impressions. 20 meter burn out Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
After burning out Two MFJ 1775's MFJ did refund my money.
The first antenna burnout at the 20meter coil leaving the end just hanging. MFJ quickly replaced the antenna. The second one went up about 30ft and started arcing at the 20meter coil with only a 100 watts applied. As mentioned MFJ refunded the purchase price excluding $90 I paid for shipping the antennas back.
I am very dissatisfied with the antenna and may not buy from MFJ again, though the tech's are helpful.

Good compact antenna Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Read the tuning instructions carefully ... the 40m spokes are not the same on both ends. best I can get is a 1.5 swr on 40m. The other bands tuned up OK.

Amazing antenna for apartment dwellers Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I cant recommend this antenna enough.. i live in Mumbai an apartment city, and needed a small antenna to put on our apartment building terrace..
This antenna is now working for over two years and well.. i can even get on 7Mhz with this tiny antenna, and also 2m (for a local net).. it is quite durable so far, and needed no maintenance.. swr levels are also reasonable across most bands..
So for those looking for a small antenna (rotatable) this one fits the bill.. also very easy to install and maintain by a single person (unlike heavier 2 element beams).. also quite inconspicuous if this is an issue (for me it is)!
So get some directionality (even if not as good as a beam), and multi band operation (does not have lossy and trouble giving L-C traps either).. this is your antenna.. good one from MFJ!

VERY NICE+MFJ 939K Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Installed the MFJ 1775 at 45' antenna works wonderful, lots and lots of contacts in and out of the US using a TS590SG the MFJ 939K antenna tuner, one click an your there everything is right about this setup, could not be happier!...........kb6hrt

Made plenty of QSO's Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This is my first HF antenna so can’t compare it to others like it but it has worked well for me. It was a chore to tune and the SWR did change when put on my rooftop. My Elmer and I had to take it down a couple of time to re-tune. Since I hold a General class license, it’s tuned for the upper portion of the bands. I added a rotor but the antenna is not directional like a beam so you don’t have to use a rotor. If you get local electrical interference, just turn the mast by hand to null the noise. My antenna is broadside east and west and I have never used the rotor. As of this review, I have made about 2,000 contacts on SSB Phone logging 102 countries (entities) and I’m one state shy of confirmation for my WAS award. This antenna is a compromise antenna and it has held up well here in Northern California. If you have the room, consider the Cushcraft MA5B or similar. That will give you workable SWR on all the bandwidth for 10-12-15-17 meters. On 20 meters, it will be narrow so you’ll tune according to what you want to work. The MA5B won’t give you 40 meters like the MFJ-1775 so keep that in mind.

surprising results BUT Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I echo the comments concerning tuning.I managed to mount the antenna in its final location (on a rotator app 6 feet above my roof) so I was able to tune it in place with the aid of an MFJ 259.
No matter what I tried I could never obtain anything lower than 1.9 on 40, even at its resonant frequency. The other HF bands tuned nicely with 1:1 SWR and fairly broad banded.

The box was missing the 6 meter stubs, a call to MFJ found them at my house the very next day, so GREAT customer service.

Another issue I suffered was RF on 40 meters, with just 100 watts (set off my alarm system!). I would a choke at the feedpoint and that seems to help somewhat.
