Amazing Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This power supply is a solution to a continuing problem, how to carry a high current p/s in a compact and light weight package. The size is amazing, no bigger than a small paperback, 1.25 pounds. I tried this with my 100 what SSB/CW HF rig and it supplied all the current necessary for a full 100w output on SSB. The "secret" is the large capacitance storage. This is confirmed by the very slow voltage discharge rate. It takes several minutes after turn-off for the voltage to bleed off and the LED to show an off condition. A simple concept that has not been implemented successfully to date. Highly recommended

Marvelous Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I took it to Hawaii with me to operate out of a hotel where I was attending a professional conference during the week of Memorial Day weekend and the CQ CW contest. Everything everyone says is true and more. I gave it a real workout from my 17th floor Honolulu hotel room with a Japanese gray market IC-706 MKII(no G), a Z-100 tunner also powered by it, a LogiKey, and a couple of shortened verticals attached to my balcony. I worked into the wee hours every night running 100 watts and it didn't even break a sweat. In particular,it didn't seem to suffer from the 80 watt constraint experienced by Phil, AD5X. I worked all continents and all over Europe. It was one of the most pleasureable experiences I have ever had in 48 years of amateur radio. It sure has made the travels of an old goat with bad knees much more pleasant!

Small, neat and powerful Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have just received my HPS-1A after 10 calendar days.... I live in France and found out about this little neat power supply reading CQ and by checking the website and later but corresponding to Gamma Research (Fred).
I love this little tiny device which despite being a beautiful piece of equipment, works decently and does the job. I am using it with both a FT-817ND and for testing reasons a TS-2000. For the QRP TX, I use it linked with a Power Amplifier respecting the limits of the manufacturer. It does do the job nicely, silently and is beautiful looking. Combined with small gears it is not only convenient for space saving (trips etc) but gives a pretty nice look at the whole set. For those looking for the description of this PS especially with its capacity of upholding 100 Watts in SSB, I do recommend this device.

Excellent for travel operation Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I took the HPS-1A on a business trip to Brazil, together with my IC-706MKIIG and a MFJ portable antenna tuner. I set up a multiband dipole fed with 450 ohms ladder line.
I operated SSB several hours on the CQ WW Contest, contacting stations in the Americas and Europe.
I also had casual QSO's within Brazil and with hams in neighboring countries, at times in long-winded periods of operation, i.e. 5 minutes talk.
From a practical experience, there was no difference whatsoever vs. operating at home with a 25 amp MFJ switcher or a 30 amp conventonal Astron power supply.
Colleagues who were with me in the shack were astonished that the radio got warmer to the touch than the HPS-1A.
For me this is a paradigm shift for travel operations. I used not to take an AC power supply, due to weight considerations, and operate only mobile, or stationary in hotel parking lots, parks or hill tops, feeding DC from the car battery. Now I will carry the HPS-1A greatly expanding my possibilities. It can be fed with 110-220v AC, 50 or 60Hz.
Great product!

Thumbs up Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
While I can't add anything to AD5X's excellent review, I can confirm the same observed behaviors on my Yaesu 897D. It's significantly quieter across the HF bands than my Astron SS-30, and the tiny size is perfect for portable operations.

Great Portable Power Supply Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is a really tiny and light switching power supply that is perfect for portable operation. It is designed for intermittant high peak current, and accomplishes this by using a 5-farad (!) capacitor bank on the output of a lower current switching power supply. It easily runs my IC-706MKIIG at 100 watts on SSB. On CW, I can comfortably run 80 watts output, and 100 watts output with some limitations. I also found it to also be extremely RF quiet. More information is in the detailed review on my website at www.ad5x.com.
