| Don's experience and knowledge can't be beat. What I thought was a simple matter of replacing/tightening a few missing/loose screws turned into a somewhat more complex opportunity once Don got a closer look and he identified the real problem. Where I would have just patched things back together Don was more thorough and improved my overall situation. Don comes well outfitted and prepared. Regardless what antenna/tower challenge you are facing, I recommend Don. |

Since putting up fifty feet of Rohn 25 as a twenty-something in Atlanta during the eighties, I've longed for something better. Years later, with seven acres to play with, things fell into place. I obtained a copy of Don Daso's tower book with the intention of taking the DIY approach, but quickly realized that time constraints would prohibit installation of the system in a timely fashion. Enter an email to Don... and instead of dreaming about a tower and beam, I'm now the proud owner of such a system!
Don reviewed emailed photos of a used commercial Rohn SSV tower I had located nearby. Based on his opinion I purchased the tower and regalvanized it. Don surveyed the tower site, fabricated the needed hardware for the project, and provided the details for the base and guy holes. Based on my needs, he recommended topping the tower with a log periodic. On erection day, Don and his partner worked tirelessly to turn the piles of cold steel and aluminum that lay in my field into a thing of beauty! The crane lifts went without a hitch, and Don's experience made it a problem-free day.
Don could fill textbooks with the knowledge of towers and antennas that he carries in his thumb alone! If you want to relax, and watch your system go up right the first time, I suggest you give Tower Works a call. Don knows best!

| pole work |
Time Owned: more than 12 months. |
I have known Don for many years, through his help with area hams installing beams on their towers. My legs and back are just about useless and I needed someone to install pulleys to existing utility poles I use for long wire antennas. I gave Don a call, and even though he indicated he preferred CLIMBING towers he agreed to put my pulleys up on three poles via long ladders. The work is done, Don works methodically and with great knowledge and safety.
Thank you Don .

| Exceeded my expectations |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
After 50 years away from the hobby I decided to install my first ever ham radio tower. I knew that I needed to find an expert to do a turnkey installation. I read the reviews on eHam and Don Daso, K4ZA “Tower Works” stood out to me so I gave him a call. He visited my site for a survey and we then sat down and talked about what my interests were. He gave me some options based on a used tower that he had taken down that fit my needs precisely. We decided what equipment I would need and we picked a location and he provided the foundation information. My next door neighbor is a concrete contractor so he dug the foundation and made the pour but Don was there during each phase of the foundation. Don supplied and installed the rebar cage and hardward and supervised the pour. In the meantime he rebuilt one of his used Tri-Banders he had and I purchased the 6M Yagi he recommended to install above it. I wanted a 40M dipole so he supplied it and made a side arm and installed it at 62 ft on the tower.
Don proved to be an honest man true to his word. It was a pleasure working with him on my project. His rates are very reasonable. His years of experience installing towers and building world class ham and contest stations means that he can devise a solution to almost any problem one may encounter with their installation. Don also tries to combine trips for multiple clients to keep the travel costs down. I told him that I was not in a hurry but wanted it done right the first time.
I highly recommend Don Daso, K4ZA “Tower Works” to any ham needing tower installation work. He more than exceeded my expectations and as he and his helper progressed I knew that I had found one of the top professional tower installers in the country. Don’s outstanding book on tower installation, “Antenna Towers for Radio Amateurs”, available from the ARRL and also Amazon contains a wealth of information that details every step of the process. It gave me a good understanding of what was before me and only cemented my decision that I wanted nothing less than a turnkey installation and that I could have 100% confidence in Don’s advice. Visit his website at http://k4za.com and follow each of his projects as they progress. |

My tower project began with a desire to downsize tower loading, while increasing frequency coverage with my old TX-472 crank up and a “Christmas Tree” of monobanders. I am fortunate to know Don K4ZA through his writing, presentations, and membership in our local club, so I sought his help.
Together, we developed a plan to remove the old antennas and hardware, and refurbish the tower. We would replace the existing array with a SteppIR DB 18 and NN4ZZ TiltPlate combination, and M2 VHF/UHF yagis.
I was very concerned with safety, as the tower was old, and the existing yagis were too large to allow using the raising fixture to get them down. Don took care of everything.
It is a privilege to watch Don in action. As with most installations, unanticipated issues develop, and this is where his experience and creativity really pay off. I had purchased a new tower base to replace the old rusted one, and this required moving the tower off the existing base in limited space. He had this done in short order, arranged to have the old fixtures galvanized, did a complete inspection of tower components and cabling, replacing what was needed. He installed an Orion rotator, the new antennas, transmission and control lines, and raised the new system.
All worked perfectly. Right First Time.
Additionally, he arranged for attractive pricing and local delivery of hardline and connectors, and built a Hoffman box for the tower terminations specific to my needs. Next step is to bury all cables to the shack.
Don's attention to detail is confidence building. His deep knowledge of towers, antennas and hardware - what works, what does not - is a huge advantage to the client. He wrote the ARRL book, "Antenna Towers for Radio Amateurs", which is essential reading for any tower owner, and it shows. World Class.
As a contractor, Don is honest, hard working, and simply great to work with. Rates are fair, and his enthusiasm and support of Amateur Radio is obvious.
As a very satisfied client, I can recommend him without reservation.

| Tower Replacement |
Time Owned: 0 to 3 months. |
| I had a tower crash in April 2011. The tower was a rohn 25G that had a guy wire snap during a severe wind storm. I contacted Don, who removed the remains of the 25G. He surveyed the situation and suggested a Rohn 55G. He found used tower sections for my installation. I live in a city lot with many trees and a landscaped yard, a very difficult area for a tower installation. Don installed elevated guy posts. There was no room for tramming the SteppIR, so Don built it on the tower with a PVRC mount. On my tower, I now have a dual band FM antenna on top, 440, 2m and 6m beams as well as a SteppIR 3E. The tower was completed in July 2012. At this time, everything is working well. Glad to be back on the air! |

Don, K4ZA did a great job for me recently replacing by cables on my TRIAX tower and doing maintenance on my HDXMDPL-89. I would recommend Don for any of your tower work. Great job. He also had John W2GD with him that day and John was also a really great tower guy as well. Thanks again Don.
