The FT-100 is really great! Time Owned: unknown months.
I purchased my FT-100 in May and have had absolutely no problem with it. I also own two FT-1000MP's so I found the menu settings familiar and easy to use. In a side-by-side comparison with one of my FT-1000MP's the sensitivity, DSP, selectivity and overall quality of operation are all very close. I particularly like the Yaesu ATAS-100 mobile antenna I purchased to take the FT-100 mobile. With just a push of a button on the FT-100 it autotunes in 5 to 30 seconds to a VSWR of 1 to 1 anywhere between 7 and 50 MHz. I'm really surprised Yaesu doesn't advertise the ATAS-100 more. The Icom 706 and the FT-100 are both great radios but, if you're setting up for mobile, this is the way to go. I've worked plenty of DX with it (mostly CW with the K9LU mini-key). Yesterday, driving across Kansas, I worked 30, or so, Europeans on 10, 12, 15 and 17 plus ER8, VQ9, JAs, VK, YV, and others. First call on almost every station. In a test comparison of this antenna to a ground mounted GAP Titan vertical signals were the same!

My ONLY operational complaint about the radio is that the CW sidetone volume is not adjustable (that I've found so far). At 60 MPH in my noisy Jeep it's hard to hear the CW sidetone. Also, yes, the optional filters are small and you have to use care to install them. Most dealers will do this for you for a price. I didn't want to wait so I did it myself. With a magnifying work light, miniature tools and an adjustable 20 watt soldering iron I was OK. Miniature fingers would have helped!

This is a serious radio and will replace a lot of FT-1000MPs on DXpeditions. I'd be happy to answer any questions -- gary@w0tm.com

The best toaster on the market! Time Owned: unknown months.
Got one just b4 Dayton from a local dealer.
After a week it died on my desk on audio ! Yes,
lost completely the audio on AM-CW-SSB modes on
all bands !
Tech support??? A joke ! Since Chip moved up at
Yaesu, the tech support is (almost) not there.
Sent the unit back to Cerritos, after 3 weeks
came back to me with a very low audio and with a
list of some two dozens of components replaced !
(Trial and error always works at Yaesu)...
Completely sensless button arrangement on the front, addition of a needed filter a nightmare,
detaching the front panel could not be more cumbersome to mention only few "minor" pblms.
Overloading ? You bet on 160, 80, 40, and 30m ...
And heavy, really heavy...
Intermod ? oh boy, just listen 2m or even 440 in
NY (Manhattan) area and you will learn to value
the old HT w/o bells and wisthles...
And I have few other fine Yaesu products with
similar problems (FT847, Vx5)...
Returned an Ouadra HF amp to the seller for a good
reason : black smoke !!!
I wonder what is going to be when my old FT1000-D
will die....
Sorry Yaesu, did u heard of QA/QC ?
