vhf engineering ht-144 Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
this was the first handheld i ever owned, bought at toledo mobile radio assn.hamfest in ohio for $80.00 used and not in kit form, 4 channels crystal and was fairly good on battery life not too bad for a kit radio was a bit boxy, ptt a bit awkward, reciever was great though, sold to upgrade to wilson 1402 for civil air patrol use very fond memories of it. Pretty good kit. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This was a steel cased HT kit for 2-meters. It was fairly easy to build and align, even with modest tools. The steel case did have a tendency to short with the battery case from time to time. I added a hand mike to mine.

Clear instruction manual. Not a Heathkit. But not a Pixie II.
