Downsize Tower and Antennas Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Since retirement I had been thinking of downsizing my tower and antennas and although they survived, Hurricane Sandy convinced me to get the job done. I contacted John who readily agreed to take on the job even though my tower is somewhat difficult to handle in that it is non standard and heaver than most. When the weather cleared, John came for a partial day to take down some hardline coax and make certain all was ready for the actual work day. The next week with the help of a crane, John removed the top antennas, lowered the tower and installed some new but smaller antennas. The shorter tower and antennas look good and all are working OK. John knows his towers and how to work on the towers and antennas.
A well done professional job that will last.

Top notch Time Owned: more than 12 months.
John and I have been friends for over 30 years.
Whenever there is a tower project I can't handle myself, John is the one I call.
I highly recommend John to anyone that wants it done right the first time! He will get results even on the toughest problems.

My tower was damaged in the hurricane.
I contacted John and he responded immediately to discuss my situation.
He was here quickly and right on time.
He repaired the tower perfectly and checked out the entire set up.
A pleasure to work with and to speak to also.
A true gentleman who knows his stuff.
Thank you John.

Outstanding Professional Work!! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I had some antenna damage thanks to Sandy!!
I E-mailed John (W2GD) and we made an appointment for him to come to my QTH (5 hours R/T). He arrived on schedule and went to work climbing my tower and fixing my problems to my complete satisfaction! I will only use W2GD for any future antenna/tower work...
Thanks John...
I'll be looking for you from P40W.

Beam repair Time Owned: more than 12 months.
John installed my Rohn 45 a few years ago and it has weathered all types of weather, including hurricane Sandy. As the result of "Sandy", the beams were no longer aligned and the elements on the main beam were now at a 45 degree angle. As busy as John is with repair work, he fixed my problem within ten days of my contacting him. He made the repair in less than hour and had to immediately leave to assist another ham who lives close by. I couldn't give him coffee or get him a beer...too busy. Well done, John. You remain on my "speed dial". Many thanks...you're the best. Tom K2WCT

Can't go wrong with John Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I've been meaning to say something about John's great skills as a tower and antenna installer/fixer, but the final impetus was an act of not only professional skill but also ham radio camaraderie that John performed in Aruba on the morning that the 2012 WPX SSB contest was to start. We're neighbors, his P40W station and mine and W6LD's P40L-P49Y are less than a mile apart. We often help each other out, but in my case, it's supplying unskilled ground labor, while in John's it's highly skilled tower work. Anyway, that morning he spent hours on our tower in the hot sun, as I described in my 3830 posting: "I can't say enough for the efforts of neighbor W2GD, who spent several hours on our 65-foot Rohn 45 tower Friday morning. With bumbling assistance from myself as ground crew, John not only diagnosed and fixed a bad jumper on the 20m monobander, but also diagnosed and swapped out a broken rotor! In return I helped him on Monday to take down his temporary wire antennas in his nasty cunucu (the cactusy land in Aruba), but that wasn't skilled labor at all. Thanks, John, for help in the true amateur spirit."
John knows what to do and how to do it. And he's a nice guy to boot! You can't go wrong having him do a project for you.

40m beam fix Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
My 2-element 40 meter beam is on a mast 10' above the top of the tower. The feed point had become intermittent. It is a difficult job to remove the lower antennas and drop the mast.

I contacted W2GD about the problem and he said he could do the job without having to remove any of the other antennas. John came prepared for the job. He had steps to climb the mast. In about 4 hours he had the antenna off, rotated the feedpoint to where I could reach it (to fix), then reinstalled the beam.

He showed a great deal of experience and skill in this move. I was very impressed! John is very customer focused and was easy to work with. I highly recommend him.

Excellent work, advice, & support Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I contacted John in March, 2012 about a new tower & antenna project. Over the next 4 months of planning we exchanged numerous emails & phone calls & I was given excellent & prompt advice on every conceivable aspect of the project from materials, contractors, suppliers, antennas, etc. He even helped me draft letters to my zoning board to get a zoning permit for the towers. I received detailed lists of parts & materials necessary, and we made sure every little cable & screw was here when he arrived. During a preliminary site visit he met with my excavating, concrete, & electrical contractors to make sure everything was done correctly. On July 9, 2012 John W2GD & Bill W2RQ arrived at 0830 & the three of us put in 3 12-14 hr days to complete the project. A Rohn 45G 65' tower & a Shelby HDBX 48' tower were installed. Atop the 45G is a Bencher Skyhawk at 66' for 20, 15, & 10m, a Force 12 WARC 7 for 30, 17, & 12m @71', & a Force 12 Delta 240 for 40m @ 76'. Atop the HDBX are a M2 6M5XHP for 6m, a M2 2M9SSB for 2m, a M2 4329WL for 70cm, & a Diamond X300 vertical for 2m/70cm. A DXengineering 80m vertical, 80m inverted V & a 160m inverted L were also installed. I have over 60 new countries in the last month & a 6m SSB QSO with CY9M. The work, advice, professionalism, cost, & results are superlative. John wiil be back for any work I might need.

John Crovelli is an excellent Antenna and tower man. Time Owned: N.A.
As an urgent request John Crovelli was asked to undertake the difficult task of removing a damaged antenna system with a severed driven element hanging precariously off a 48ft. tower. The antenna system had been subjected to extremely high winds from a previous storm. John accepted the task, surveyed the project, and then climbed safely up the 48ft. tower. He then disassembled the antenna including the severed element and removed the antenna from the tower under dangerous high wind conditions. He also removed a rotator, coaxial cable, and rotator power and control cables deemed to be extensively damaged. He then assesed the antenna system damage and provided me with an accurate cost estimate to restore the antenna system back in service. As a top antenna and tower man John Crovelli has no equal. I would not hesitate to recommend him for any antenna or tower job.John is a super guy deal with. In summary The project working with John was a pleasant experience and the project was complered to ny complete satisfaction.
