Is it radio? No. Is it fun? YES! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Initially I wondered a bit about this program. But the 'virtual transceiver' grabbed my attention. Here was a presentation of VOIP transmissions with a true twist of Ham Radio thrown in for good measure. How good is it?

Well, I hear hams yakking with voice and morse...in fact, I see conversations up and down 'the band' on the virtual transceiver's bandscope. There's several round tables going on. Calls are being used, in the tradition of Amateur Radio. Is it radio? Nope. Is it fun? Amazingly...even for a dyed-in-the-wool traditionalist like me...YES!

The stylish Cormac CQ100 Transceiver works similar to a transceiver...even down to the S Meter. And I'd really love this program if you could download a virtual transceiver of your choice...can I get a Collins KWM-2?

I give this program 5 stars; it does what it says and it doesn't pretend to be a replacement for HF ham radio.

But before drawing conclusions from postings here, I'd suggest a download and try it for yourself...

Good programming... no more than a chat room Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
-Putting up antennas within the constraints of your physical environment: that's ham radio.
-Setting up the optimal configuration of one's station: that's ham radio.
-Working around RFI, QRN, QRM, QSB and lousy band CONDX: that's ham radio.

-Plugging in a cheap 2$ microphone into my computer and playing ham is just not cutting it for me.

Although I tip my hat to the programming job behind this thing, it is nothing more than a chat room for people with ham radio licenses.

I downloaded it, tried it, next thing I'll do is uninstall.

Good Change of Pace Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Nice change of pace for anyone interested in H.F. The user interface is set up to look just like a HF radio on your computer screen. Once setup you will see 80m,40,20,15,10 etc band buttons. A Mic gain control, AF gain control plus a nice spectrum display showing any station operating in that part of the band. Hook up a simple mic to your sound card and call CQ or join in with a on going QSO. DX is everywhere on all bands 24x7, or just a local rag chew with a ham in the next town or state. If CW is your bag, there is a BUILT IN KEYER on your new Corman CQ100 rig just use the keyboard to type in your text. Or use your favorite keyer or bug your choice. Say you like SSTV there is a group operating that mode also. I have found every one to be very helpful, and polite. Yes as with most everything in ham radio there are a few things I would change but for the most part wonderful service. It is FREE for 90 days, after that $32 a year. Try it what have you got to lose ?

All you need Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
This is the only thing you will need for Ham Radio. I find that this product is so good that many hams are selling all there equipment and just using this. Now that is saying something. You will have to try it to believe this. Bill

Great when travelling Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I have just decided to shell out some of my precious bucks for this service. But it amounts to less then a dime a day! I am enthusiastic about this program. I am often on the road and can use it from hotel rooms anywhere in the world. It works well as a portable "rig" with a laptop and a Wi-Fi connection. Congratulations to the author of the software. A suggestion: to have a logbook incorporated within the software.

Far better than EchoLink and eQSO!

Brilliant!!! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
What a fantastic piece of software!! It’s easy to install and operate. This is exactly what the doctor ordered especially with the band conditions been so poor at present. Everything about it is virtual reality except for the actual QSO’s. I hope future versions will have a logbook included and perhaps an improvement may be to have the station you are working’s name and call sign remain on the screen while you are busy taking an over.
Compliments and a special word of thanks to the team responsible for this fantastic addition to amateur radio.

a great idea Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I've had several QSO's with operators all over the world, and even in my own neighborhood, and I'm having a blast. It closely simulates an HF radio, and you can operate voice and CW on five HF bands. There is even a simulated noise floor, which can be silenced with a squelch control. You register and send off a copy of your license, and once you're approved, you can get on the 'air' and start making contacts. You can use this HF simulator, even if your license class does not include real HF priviledges. It's especially great for those who can't set up an HF station due to antenna restrictions.

I recommend everyone at least give it a try.

HF Simulator Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The software is excellent for novices to obtain a look and feel of HAM radio, also you do get to talk with other HAM operator around the world, however it is over the Internet, and uses VOIP. The Software I will assume uses visual basics to create a look and feel of HAM set, and also provides some basic functions of a real HAM set. This is solves for HAM operators that are in Apartments, or economically challenged. In my opinion, outstanding innovation, congrads to the software developer!
