Great Rig! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Recently pulled this old rig out of the closet and set it up on 146.52 simplex, hooked it up to a 3 amp power supply, attached to an old Ringo Ranger on 15' of TV mast. My ham radio interest is rekindled! Great, simple rig! Good sensitivity, tight front end!

Good rig! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The Kenwood TR-7500, which I purchased used at a recent hamfest for $20, works well to my honest astonishment. I usually work 146.94 in my area as a commuter net is done during weekend mornings and the report thus far is excellent audio on both ends. I'm a little disappointed thus far that I can't do repeaters on 145.xxx but I'm sure there has to be a mod for that. Also I wonder if there is a tone squelch tone board available for this rig? If not I figure I might just get a handheld tone burst unit or something like that to kick in such repeaters. Still I can't complain too much for something that cost a mere $20.

Solid rig with a tight front end! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This was my first mobile rig and I still have it!
The front-end is so tight, I have never heard any intermod come through.
Excellent audio with a Drake(Tempo?) DTMF microphone.
On 10watts it consumes less than 3Amps at 12Vdc.
I could safely run it on a regulated 12Vdc 3Amp power supply without bogging it down or getting too hot. (Try that with a new rig!)
The low power setting can be adjusted between 1w and 4w.
When you switch to low power, the light in the S-meter turns green.

OK, the channelized part got me confused at first but I figured it out.
It's basically a VFO that can only change frequency at a rate of 30KHz and only between 146MHz and 148MHz.
There is a +15KHz button you push to go in between steps.
The TX offset is controlled by a manual switch.

Mine had a case of bad solder joints on the board witch was later fixed. The ULI light (Un-Locked Indicator) would come on intermittently.
Also I had the "Reverse" mod done to it since I didn't have the tone board installed.

Excellent rig for a newby, backup or dedicated monitoring.
