I was hoping that this set would be on a par with the Mini 300 with expanded coverage. Indeed, the G1100 adds the 4,5, and 21 Mhz bands. Also, a backlight is provided, the display digits are larger, and, unlike the Mini 300 which displays 5Khz high, the G1100 is close to being correct.

My disappointments were in two areas. The sensitivity as good (or almost as good)as the 300 on 6,7,9, and 11 Mhz. On the 15,17, and 21Mhz bands, the G1100 was noticably less sensitive. This was a surprise seeing as the coverage was expanded upwards to include the 21Mhz band! Grundig confirmed that this is inherent with the G1100 (i.e, this was not a bad G1100). The antenna is much shorter than the 300. I'm guessing that the antenna was kept short to reduce the set's sensitivity in order to avoid overloading problems. I've always been amazed at how free from overload that the Mini 300 manages to be. The other dissapointment is that some of the bands are not included in a complete manner. I tried to tune in Greece on 9.42 Mhz, and discovered that the G1100 does not tune below 9.44 Mhz on the 9Mhz band. So much for hearing Greece, BBC on 9.41, and N. Korea on 9.335Mhz!
On the 21Mhz band, Coverage begins with about 21.55Mhz. One of the few nice signals that can be depended upon on the 21Mhz band is BBC on 21.47 Mhz. Oh well.

Selectivity is not a high point either. With the set apparently designed mainly for the stronger signals, a wide filter makes sense...the audio sounds full. Even here, though, the 300 is a skosh more selective, and to my ear (throughearbuds),sounds even better.

I returned it rather than absorbing the $50.
