A MUST HAVE !!! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
i think everyone who's looking to play audio these days should own a w2ihy 8 band eq.reason number one and the very best reason#Julius has the best customer support ever.I have been on the phone with him for about 6 hrs in the past week and a half trying to resolve rfi issues in the shack.I never purchased the IHY from him and still he said send it back and ill isolate the mic input among other things.he didnt even charge for shipping. He told me 2 things that make me a believer other than the performance is #1-he treats his customers like he would his mother"and he loves his mom"#2 He refuses to let his product go to china and make 50+ on marketing his product. And basically if you dont like the IHY then he'll refund your money. Now i cant ask for a better product made from somebody this willing to take time from his life to help someone EVEN if its outboard gear and rfi issues. And the conversation we had about whats in store for the upcoming with the enhanced HI FI user will be amazing to see.Everything plus more built into one package.Julius, you have my respect and plan to deal with you untill one of us retires from this hobby..tnx-Jerod"the guy with the microphone that WOULD burn your lips off"haha

Mr. Jones makes great suff Time Owned: more than 12 months.
W2IHY 8 BAND EQ-EQplus I-BOX
I have been using the W2IHY 8 Band EQ for over six years. For the past year and half I have run it with the EQplus. I ran both units off and on while testing other audio gear. I have used; FT-1000MP, FT-920, FT-840, TS-870,TS-2000, IC-756 Pro, IC- 706MKIIG, Nady 1050 tube mic “has it’s own power supply”, - MXL 2003- MXL990- “Need 48Vphantom power”, Electro-voice RE20- Heil Goldline GM 5, and the pro, AstAtic D-104 Yaesu MD 100, Behringer’s DEQ 2496, VX 2496, FBQ 1502, DSP 2024, REV 2496, Symetrix 528 and the 528e, W2IHY 8 band EQ, EQplus and the I-box by W2IHY.

What can be said about W2IHY products that have not already been said?
Well, read the great reviews. His products are simple to set up, “user Friendly”, they have a strong resistant to RF. These units are designed for hams by hams.
They are built specifically for an RF operating environment. Some of the audio gear out-there can be made to sound wonderful. Some Ham’s have gone so far out into the field to make their station sound like an “FM Broadcast station”.
However, this was done at the extra expense of filters swapping, RF issues, and a many a day and night driving people nuts with, how’s my audio sound?
My point is, if you don’t mind modifying your radio, spend you child’s collage fund on outboard audio gear, case RF like a scared mouse in a room full of children, then yes you can put together a awesome sounding station and come close to walking circles around Mr. Jones’s equipment. Ever heard of KISS?
Install a mid price HF radio, throw in a decent microphone (even a Rat Shack one) I prefer a Heil mic, but try and keep it 600 ohms, drop in a W2IHY 8 band eq, you ill get unsolicited positive comments about you audio. Read the Manual.

The 8 band EQ will work with nearly any microphone. The EQplus, all users will see a marked improvement in clarity and add what I call, twinkle. Audio racks, you’ll hear operators bragging about all the outboard audio gear they are running. They sound wonderful, most times at the end of that chain is aq Julius box.

At the 2000 Ham-fest in Dayton I spent some time talking with Julius. I developed a strong admiration for that man. I have called or corresponded with Julius on many many occasions. He is always helpful, going beyond what this ham has experienced with “any dealer”. Most times he will answer the phone himself, or he will call you back, promptly. When emailed his response is almost instant.

CREDITS: I would like to thank a few of my friends that had no idea what I’ve been doing this past year. Night after night, week after week I must have driven sounding nuts. How’s this sound, how’s that sound, what about this, what if I do this, Bla, Bla, Bla, Bla…… I would get it right and bingo change something again. Everyone was great, putting up with my consistent pestering. There were times I fear they would run off the second I signed in. Thank you all so very much; W2IHY, K2ESE, W4DOG, K3RWP, N1MSK, N2QN, K8JET, K2BLU, N8WBV, KV4HO, N2LRW, WB2CMA, N1MIT,W3AJM, W44SAL, W4OAE and the list goes on and on, I Love You all “Brother-man”.

This device can do more for your transmit audio than anything else available when used as a stand alone devise. You can fine-tune your audio for DXing, rag-chewing With the 8 band EQ there is enough audio shaping ability to satisfy anyone.
Got a noisy fan? Loud TV, HA the W2IHY 8 band EQ has the answer. NOISE GATE………
Julius is always there to help out friendly his customer service is legendary.

Wonderful performance! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
What can I say. Makes my old 751a sound great. Support is within minutes! I don't think he sleeps. And no I don't know him. And he didn't pay me or give me a discount. I would not hesitate to buy another. But I don't need to!

an overdue "review! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I give this W2IHY unit a 5. I've owned mine for over 3yrs.When I ordered mine I almost bought the kit. Julius DOES support "ALL" his product line with HELP. I've e-mailed him many times over 3yrs. He always answers me with advice.I am going to keep an"eye"on his website for future items. As for now,I own both units;the 8-bandE.Q.&the EQ plus. They make"MUSIC" together !
I looked at prices of different stuff. It can get into"BIG DOLLARS",this audio stuff!! RayN

Amazing Results Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought the 8 band equalizer from another ham for US$ 100. What amazing results, inmediately without ask for reports, I received congratulations about the sound of my voice, and the deep modulation, like BBC sound. The support of Julius is very fast, and amazing also. A kind of client service that the big companies must to learn.

Excellent Kit & Worked first time it was powered up. Time Owned: more than 12 months.
If you follow the instructions and have decent soldering skills, you should have no problem building this unit. I bought the kit summer of 2004 and I just finished it tonight, 02/16/2006. I followed the directions and was able to walk away from it for months at a time and then go right back to it and keep on building. The first time I hooked it up to my 746 Pro using a Heil ICM mic. The thing worked perfectly. All I had to do was taylor the audio to set the EQ for my operating style. I have a Heil PR-40 on the way and that is the perfect marriage for this EQ. Just follow the directions.

Top quality, top performance Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I am one of many users of the W2IHY boxes, and in the past have chosen not to add my comments, since I agreed with what was said.

But I am more than a bit puzzled by the last comment about bad quality. I have opened up and played with both boxes, and examined (and tested for values) many of the components.

Now, these may not be mil-spec boards and components, but they're the next best thing. The quality of everything, including factory assembly, is first-class. And as someone who has built and operated radio and audio equipment for the past 50 years, I have some idea what I am talking about.

As for performance, the units speak for themselves, literally. And of course, if you don't like what you got, you can return it. Wouldn't you like to get that guarantee from other suppliers of equipment, amateur or audio?

Nothing is perfect, but these boxes are about as good as they get. And component quality -- and performance -- are certainly beyond question.

Hobby Quality High price Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I bought the W2IHY kit and when I opened it I was sorry I did. Many of the resistors were bent and appeared to come out of a junk box.

The overall Quality of the unit is very poor considering the high price.

My recommendation is that if you want a high quality noise gate and equalizer, stick with the professional stuff like the Behringer units at about the same price as this Hobby unit.

I would never do business with these guys again !

I can't believe they get away with selling this low quality product for this price.
