Better than Behringer Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I have to disagree with many of the "Behringer" fanatics. I began with the W2IHY, and was impressed with the difference it made to my transmit audio, versus the stock rig audio. After talking to other audiophiles, they persuaded me that the Behringer quality sound recording equipment would be that much better. I spent $900.00 in external Behringer equipment, and you know what I found.. I cannot run my amplifier, due to RF distorting/ruining the audio, and the Behringer equipment adds hiss/white noise to your audio signal, unless the highs are substancially subdued via behringer's equalization. Then I had to ask, what's the point of using expanded audio processing equipment, if all the equalization of highs need to be subdued to eliminate the devices own internal noise?

The Behringer did have more functionality bang for your buck, but as far as a quality piece of equipment, I'm sticking with the W2IHY, which that is much less prone to RFI problems in your audio chain, (where the W2IHY kills Behringer). Also, I found that 80% of the stations that were receiving Behringer type of equipment with normal SSB and AM filter settings, the W2IHY actually sounds better!!

Nice Solution with FT1000MP Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Bought the W2IHY 8 Band EQ to match with my FT1000MP and Heil Goldline GM5.I now run the MP with no processor and together with Goldline on the "Wide" full range setting, am getting some fabulous audio reports.I owned an MD100 mic which went well with the MP, but the GM5 and the W2IHY go hand in hand to produce some cracking audio reports.
I have a fairly deep voice so these settings may not work for everyone, but the EQ is easily adjusted for many different voice characteristics.
On the "Noise Gate" - My radio environment is not that noisy, but have tried out the noise gate and although it works ok,the level of adjustment is very critical to make it work correctly (I think the slider VR swings too far too quickly - it needs making narrower to give more precise control).I think that i'll be adding the new EQ plus soon to complete my set up.
Check out www.maxproduction.co.uk/w2ihy.html for a list of my FT1000MP settings and a photo of the W2IHY 8 band eq settings.(Page will be live from 21.00z Aug 1st 2005).

BIG GUN ON AUDIO QUALITY MARKET Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I’m not „golden-mouthed” and my opinion about this product is very simple: if you wish something exceptional – buy it. You won’t be disappointed. Special handicap for HAM’s with “big cities troubles”: working barefoot you have additional power amplifier making by outstanding audio quality. Also you can use different mics. and different equipments – it’s very flexible unit and your studio signal still the same.
Of course someone can say – “that’s unnecessary toy” or “not worth those money” and I have absolutely different opinion. At all times we can choice between BMW and some shoddy one.
Excellent product and Customer Service.
Thanks, Julius.

GREAT PRODUCT/BETTER SERVICE Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Julius has got it right....great product, backed up by even better personal service. I recieved my 8 band EQ as a gift and emailed Julius for some suggestions on base line settings for a new Heil PR-40 microphone into the balanced modulator of my PRO II, and within hours I had a personal email back with his suggestions and was on the air!! I would recomend this or any of the W2IHY line to anyone who is in the market for such things.

Nice but not worth those money Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I was using those unit 3 months. Nice box, but not so much flexible. I sold it, bought 2 pieces of Behringer sound processing. Cheaper than this, more powerful, working much better for less money. W2IHY eq is good in start into ssbaudio, but simply not enough, when you are deep into.

Great product Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I bought one used like new and it works well. Very easy to use. I use it mainly for gain and a little brightness for readability.

Awesome Audio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I almost didnt get one. I thought my audio was just fine after all the 756pro2 has a EQ built in. Then I found a used one on the net for a good price so I decided to pick it up. I bought the both cables for it after a few emails to Julius. Once I got my cables I started to play with it. Wow! It really does make a HUGE difference! I can't believe how it sounds it's amazing just amazing. I would buy one in a heartbeat! If you really want great sounding audio I would pick one up you won't be disappointed.

THE best addition to any shack Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have an ICOM IC-7800 which once I had set-up its internal equalisation, I consistenetly received good audio reports. I use the transceiver's optical I/O facilities for external data modes, but unfortunately these are affected by the rigs equalisation settings, so I decided to try the W2IHY 8 Band Equaliser for microphone fed audio and leave the rig's internal equalisation flat.
I couldn't understand what the purpose of the noise gate was until I configured-it. Absolutely fantastic! The clearance of background noise in and outside of the shack is amazing and I now commonly receive 'excellent' audio reports.
My only downside is the UK model is supplied with a two pin mains adapter, which is something that has generally been discontinued years ago and only now used in bathrooms for rechargeable toothbrushes and shavers.
To conclude: although the unit is rather expensive in the UK (virtually double the USA price), its still worth every penny and a fantastic addition to any radio. The difference made to one's audio is not just suprising, it's actually stunning!
