Review Summary For : Magellan SporTrak topo
Reviews: 1MSRP: 289
Description:
The SporTrak Topo offers the same great features as other models in the SporTrak family, with the addition of topographic information included in the built-in map. This map covers the continental United States, Hawaii, and the southern 80% of Alaska. In addition to topographic contour lines, it includes major highways, roads, and waterways.

The built-in map is contained within 128MB of internal flash memory which is more than any other SporTrak model. 16MB of this memory is reserved for uploading custom regions from the included MapSend Topo CD or other optional MapSend CD products.

This GPS has a great idea behind it. With all the topo maps installed it works great as a back country gps. It also supports standard serial (RS232) output which makes it a great gps for APRS. After a simple configuration it is up and running with no problems. Used it with both my tinytrak3 and Kenwood TM700. The only problem I have had with this, is at the worse times, it would loose it basemaps. And when this happened the GPS was unusable. You would have to call Magellan, get an RMA and send the GPS in for them to rebuild it. After a few weeks you would get your GPS back. It would then work for a few weeks, maybe months, and then loose it basemaps again. Then the process would start all over again.
