Review Summary For : Diamond BNCJ-SMAP Adapter
Reviews: 3MSRP: 10
Description:
Adapter for SMA equipped handhelds to use BNC antennas. Low profile design reduces amount of torque applied to the handheld antenna connector. Sleek 1 piece design, black in color with gold contacts. Rubber ring around edge for better grip. Simply the best SMA to BNC adapter for a handheld application.
Product is in production

Really nice BNC SMA adapter Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The black finish on this adapter is very nice and the wide base is great to protect the handheld's SMA connector.

Note this one is low profile so if your HT has a "long" SMA female thread part, then this adapter won't screw all the way down, and you'll have to get a plastic or rubber washer from somewhere.

Eg on the Yaesu FT1D this adapter is *perfect* whereas on the ICOM ID51A it doesn't work without extra parts.

Overall the BNC connector allows much faster antenna changes and reduces wear on the HT's delicate SMA connector if you change antennas often like I do.

Rock solid precision but may need spacer to match your HT Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
The previous review said it well: BNC offers lots of benefits over SMA, and this adapter adds (wait: can add) the necessary base support to make your SMA stronger and resist lateral forces better.

Depending on the topography of your HT around the SMA connector, this adapter may not have direct contact with the case and will then just sit in the air, providing none of the necessary base support. In my case, with a Yaesu FT-60, it needs an O-ring between its base and the HT's body. With the right size O-ring, it then offers superb stability and a rock-solid antenna connector.

This adapter is machined of one piece of brass and its wider base is covered with hard but grippy rubber, ideal to give it just the right torque when mounting or removing it.

In comparison to the custom-made adapters by Gulyas, this one offers a definitive, solid contact (with O-ring, if necessary) and total ease of operation. No hard pushing down of the BNC antenna mount needed like with the Gulyas adapter, which I had first but replaced it with this one. Glad I did!

low stress for the sma Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Lets look at the physics of the stress applied to the sma connectors on the modern HTs and you will come to the same conclusion I did; that the diamond bncj-smap adapter reduces stress on the sma connector, while dispersing the moment arm of energy produced by a flexing duckie antenna over a greater surface area. This adds up to longer life for the antenna connector (and radio) as well as giving the HT owner quicker access to antenna changes. The stress on the connector is additionally reduced by eliminating the need of screwing on and off the antennas during an antenna change. All my HTs now have this adapter. Also, most of the BNC antennas are less expensive than their SMA counterparts.
