Review Summary For : WaveNode WN-2 Wattmeter/Modulation Monitor
Reviews: 33MSRP: 385 Complete
Description:
The WN-2 allows viewing four Coax sensors simultaneously on its LCD display or PC via USB 2.0. Monitor Modulation waveform and spectrum at the coax directly on your PC! You can mix sensors and add sensors at any time.
Features four auxiliary analog inputs, eight digital input/outputs, as well as power supply voltage and current monitoring. Big on performance, but small enough to go mobile or in the field.

Bought the wavenode 2
with two hf and one vhf/uhf sensor
and having a software implemented
band scope to see your signal
real-time is really amazing
this is the "flexradio" of wattmeters

Best setup out there Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
This is the easiest and best SWR/Watt meter I've used. It makes tuning up the AMP very quick and graphical. You can map your antennas and save the plots for later comparison. A very useful tool in the shack! Alan is very easy to deal with and if you have any questions, his support is second to none.

I also have a Bird 43 with the peak reading option and a fist full of slugs. The WaveNode makes the bird obsolete for in shack use.

Great support! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Before I choose WaveNode for my radios, I've tried a few numeric SWR/Wattmeter, etc. Most of them was good, but just do what they was supposed to do on a short range of frequencies, not more. With WaveNode I have now 4 probes : 2 for HF, 1 for VHF/UHF and now 1 for SHF (shf-3) @ 1300MHz, all on the same monitor! When I've ordered the new probes, I've done a mistake and received the wrong probes. After a short email to WaveNode, Alan send me 'free' of charge the Probes I had to receive. In the same time I've send them back (and Alan trust me...). Because it was not enough, he add a free option on one of the probe (RF-View). What can I say! The SWR works like a charm, I've got a really great service and support! If I could give more than 5/5 here I will do it! Hi ...

Outstanding Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
No need to go over all the product's great benefits since it does everything it claims to do...and does it well. Just go to WaveNode's page and see.
What I really want to do is rave about Wavenode's service. It is outstanding. After owning the device for a few months I decided to hook up the RC-1 to my Yaesu 1000 DXA rotator, but just couldn't get the maps to display correctly. A quick email to Alan was all it took. He even created maps for me that were focused on my own lat/long. I now have a rotator control that works like a champ.

What a great product and what great service!

Incredible automation and insightful instrumentation! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I learned about the WaveNode two days before we left for the IXDC '09 convention in Visalia. Well, when I met Al at his table in the vendor area and learned more about the capabilities I became convinced.

I've had the meter home now for ~24 hours. But I've spent the day with it. I've integrated it into my shack with HRD/DM780, DXLabs and Afreet software. I got 3 HF-1 sensors, one with RFView and one UHF-1 sensor with N connectors and RFView. I've also got the RT-2 dual channel rotor controller and Al is keen to get support for other programs into the pipeline.

1 day doesn't sound like much, but it's easy to get this thing integrated into your shack and start using it to get more insight into your transmissions than ever before.

When you consider the cost, consider the features and benefits. Oscilloscope 4 analog (temperature, voltage, etc) inputs, 4 logic (on/off) inputs and outputs, 1 or 2 channel Yaesu rotor control. As well, each of the sensor channels is read simultaneously!

There is extensive documentation and code samples for how to interface software with the unit and one fellow has even posted to his blog code for web page integration!

I run an SO2R station with complete remote control capabilities. This has expanded those capabilities significantly. Using this along with my new AIM4170C VNA is going to increase my skills and knowledge of radio significantly. It may even help me get more DX contacts. Grin.

WN-2 Experience Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have owned the WN-2 for about 2 years now. I use two sensors, one after my transceiver and one after a Commander 2500 amp. The system works flawlessly, and the graphic views are awesome. There is a lot of flexibility built in with the different views - oscilloscope, spectrum, SWR and power, as well as rotor control and several logic relays. The WN-2 is just fun to use, and offers significant capabilities for the money. I highly recommend this product.

You have to buy one of these!!!! Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
If there is one thing I have to have in my shack, it is the WN-2. I may change my radios, but I would never get rid of my my WN-2. This is absolutley the best product I have purchased in Ham Radio and beyond my expectations. In addition to SO MUCH that this product will do, you will not deal with a better, more supportive person than AL!!!! Not only can you see everything that is going on in your shack on your computer screen, including power, SWR, your transmitted spectrum analysis, etc, but you can remote control other things, like antennas and power amps. I control my SGC power amp remotely, oN/OFF with an external control board I easily built. I can see if the amps protection tripped it off too as you have Logic in and out connections. Don't buy a cheap DO NOTHING meter, get this one that DOES SO MUCH. I use my Flex Radios remotely over the internet and now with this WN-2 I can see and control the other things that my FLEX cannot while I see my power out of my amp ..SWR and monitor voltages on critical points in the shack. I LOVE THIS THING!!

Superior product and service Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Every now and again you come across a product that excels. I found the WaveNode WN-2 to be a flexible measuring system that can be configured to meet the needs of amateurs and commercial interests. It is extremely well made using state-of-the-art technology with high quality components. The attention to design and detail is evident in the accuracy and repeatability of power measurements. Variability from port to port and sensor to sensor was found to be minimal in my tests. In addition to peak/average power and SWR the WN-2 provides measurements of supply voltage and modulation by frequency. The ability to connect four sensors to the main control unit is an advantage over competing products and was a driving force for my initial interest.

The layout of installation instructions contained on a CD was a little confusing at first and reflected the product's growing pains. Installation as a stand alone meter was not difficult. Software and instructions for a well designed computer interface were intuitive. I had several installation questions and the WaveNode crew was very responsive, timely and accurate. Suggestions made by customers for software enhancements are well received and periodic future upgrades are in the works. The designer of this product appears to be taking full advantage of the microprocessors speed and flexibility to provide unique ways of capturing and displaying measured information. I can easily recommend this first class product from a small responsive company.
