Great program Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This is a pretty slick program. Worked right off the bat and the rig control as soon as I finally install the HAMLIB worked like a charm.

The PSK viewer is an awesome feature. Set a freq and it monitors up to 30 other channels.

My only difficulty right now is that I can't get it to work a call look up. Works only with paid subscriptions. Not sure why as MLDX has a free look up option. If I am not doing anything wrong this would be a great added feature

In the digital modes it works great. It is a little lacking in CW reading.

This is definitely worth a try on your system.

major changes! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Although I have used fldigi under Linux in the past, it was quite a challenge for me to get it working. Very recently, fldigi has been ported to MS Windows XP and Vista. It may be the only software of its type that can run on Windows, Mac OS-X, FreeBSD, and GNU/Linux variants.

The new program has been greatly enhanced with many added modes with more to come as well as continued development. The MFSK modes have an improved capability to work under static crashes but are still backward compatible with other MFSK programs.

If all this wasn't enough, fldigi interoperates with flarq to form the core programs of the NBEMS suite (Narrow Bandwidth Emergency Messaging System)

Wow! Easy to use and a great decoder Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I'm using it on a dual-boot desktop with XP and Ubnuntu 7.04 linux. The program is straight-forward enough for a beginner like me. I think (but no measurements to prove it) that FLDigi decodes RTTY and PSK31 a bit better than MMTTY/MMVARI under Windows.

I'm also logging the QSOs to xLog, and it works well.

I am not using an interface . . . just audio cables from my FT-757 to the soundcard. No problems that I am aware of.

An easy way to try FLDigi would be to download "Digipup" (www.w1hkj.com/flpuppy.html) and burn a CD. Digipup is an adaptation of "Puppy Linux" and has FLDigi already included. It ran fine on my modest desktop, and doesn't need to touch your hard disk at all.

Future Classic? Yes! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Program is full featured but not a memory or CPU hog. Great decoders, seems to be able to decode under adverse condx that cause other proggies I've tried buckle. Good CW support. Good XLOG logging support. I think you can also log to another popular Logger. Auto QRZ lookup and form fill.

Minuses? Has crashed my system a few times, but that MAY be STANDBY related. Also, have a few wishes: multiple QSO windows? Worked Before Alert?

But overall, a great program, with lots of potential. And you can DL it as a single executable, no compiling necessary. How convenient is that!

Another reaso to go Linux in the shack Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I think every ham's PC should have a Linux partition on it to sample ham applications like fldigi. This software works great on my Ubuntu Edgy Eft Linux distro on my Dell Dimension 2400. I use it with xlog to log my qso's with one command. I have it on my laptop also. The software is lean and mean just like most unix utilities. Give it a try and have some fun. Did I remind you that you don't have to worry about getting a virus? Another benefit!!!

To all Hams: try Linux Digimode! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Tried the software as delivered with Puppy Linux, ISO file downloaded from the website. All 100% first time, even with Puppy Linux installed on a USB Stick! If you don't have any exp. with Linux, this is the way to start and try it. Boot it up from CD and way to go. CW reading seems to be working FB, esp. at high speed. In my opinion this is the first serious multimode app. for linux. I will write a review when I have played around with it

Even works on FreeBSD! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I've been using fldigi for about two months solid and it has been geat. I run it on my FreeBSD UNIX system from a port thanks to VA3DB. I don't have to boot into windows.

The soundcard decode is great and copying cw is a cinch.

One thing I wish it would do is convert lowercase letters to uppercase when entering a callsign for QSO.

My 746 works well with fldigi when configured as a 746PRO (for PTT control).

FB digimode s/w for Linux Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This software project builds on gMFSK and numerous other FOSS projects. It has rig control features using Hamlib, rigCAT, and memcpy methods. Supports CW, Dominoex, Hell, MFSK. PSK, Olivia, RTTY, and throb. Also provides precise frequency measurement.

I found the software remarkably polished for a relatively new effort. Static binaries are provided for many Linux distributions, but you may have to compile it from source code, along with the fltk GUI toolkit.

Mostly reliable* and very usable for my style of operating PSK31 and RTTY, mostly. Rig control and logging are also very good. One feature I would like to see is control of DSP filtering via rig control (e.g., in the Orion).

(*I do observe software hangups when controlling my Orion's frequency and mode from fldigi through Hamlib. I would downgrade my rating, except I suspect the problem is with Hamlib and/or the Orion firmware.)

It is great to have a competitive digimode app for Linux users. fldigi may lack a few of the bells and whistles of the best Windows digimode apps, but it is definitely usable.
