Description:
Modification to the Icom HM-151 hand microphone that comes with the Icom IC-7000. This mod fixes the poor FM audio that this microphone and radio combination has from the factory. The modification replaces the mic element and a capacitor, adds a shaped acoustic foam shell, widens the mic opening, adds a wind screen (pop filter) and a 1oz weight to the microphone shell.

Bob does a 1st class job. From a mushy mic at best to a nice crisp clear clean sound. Fast turn around. Mailed the mic on a Saturday and it was back to me by Wednesday the following week, 4 days.

Fantastic Improvement - FAST Service Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The Icom IC-7000 that I recently purchased suffered from the same microphone malady as all the others. My friends told me that my FM audio was very low and "kinda mushy." It just wasn't up to par when compared to other radios.

A fast e-mail to Bob, AB5N, and I was ready to send my microphone off for his magical touch. In less than a week the microphone was back and all is now well in radioland.

My friends could not believe the improvement. I was told the radio sounded completely different. One friend could not believe the difference. Another said, "The fellow that did the work really knows what he is doing. Your radio sounds fantastic. You defnintely got your money's worth."

A quick shift to SSB and there was more amazement. My friends said the SSB signal sounded like FM. It was that good.

Besides getting the microphone repaired, Bob sends an instruction sheet on how to initially set your microphone. Adjustments can be made from that point.

To say I am happy is an understatement. The quality of the audio has been improved dramatically. The speed of service is exceptional, and the price is more than reasonable. I highly recommend this service.

Great audio now and the 1 oz weight feels great! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I just purchased a 7000 and sent the mic to AB5N to have the mod done. Same day turn around and now the audio quality over the air is great. I had the 1 oz weight added and the mic no longer feels cheap. Just the right amount of weight in your hand for a solid comfortable feel. I'm very happy with the results and would recommend the mod for anyone with this radio.

Works as advertised. Turnaround was very quick. Setting the mic gain is a challenge at first because you have to turn it almost off to get the correct audio(at least in my case). I ended up running the mic gain at 5% with a very small amount of compression. Booming audio and full output on SSB holding the mic very close, for mobile operation. Well worth the price according to the people that have to listen to me hi hi.

Just got my Microphone back today and it works great ! Microphone was very inferior as it came from the Factory and AB5N does a Great Job in Improving Audio Quality !
This is a Very Big Improvement in Microphone Operation of this fine radio !

Well after 8 months of ownership of my IC-7000 I finally decided to send my mic over to Bob. I had it overnight shipped to him and really excited for him to do his "magic" on the mic. It didnt take long for Bob to send it back to me and couple of emails and Bob calling me giving me status of the shipment. He picked up the package in the Post Office and did the mod and shipped it back that same day! On air reports on FM was a big improvement with a lot of mid and fidelity audio. On SSB, amazing audio and I can really tell that the hollowness sound is gone and it drives the rig a lot better and nice audio response. I did the exact same setting on 25 mic gain on compression on 3 but I found out that 27 and 2 with TBW on WIDE and default cutoff 100L/2900H works best for my voice is pretty close. I couldn't be more satisfied with this modification and really very happy with it. Big kudos to Bob for such an amazing job and great customer service. Thanks again Bob!

The turnaround time from here in Vermont was about a week using USPS Priority Mail. Bob kept me informed by e-mail as to when it was received, when the mod was made, and when it was being shipped back.

Upon my first HF QSO, I got an unsolicited audio complement. I never before got an audio complement with the IC-7000.

Money well spent. Thank you, Bob Nagy.

I am very pleased with the modification to my HM-151. The service that Bob provides is great, and very fast. Don't hesitate if you have one of these mic's to utilize his service

Great improvement Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
My 5 yr old son is getting on the air with me in an effort to collect QSL cards from as many contacts as he can. I could barely drive the IC7000 with the stock mic, and Luke was barely audible. Bob's upgrade made a huge difference, and I was actually back on the air with it two days after shipping it to him!
