Will work with Negative Key Volts Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
W9JCC's review is another example of "real hams never read a manual". Of course MFJ-216 will work with negative key voltage when connected as written in the manual. Just do it exactly as written there. Better read a manual than bashing MFJ.

Won't work with negative key volts Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
My application requires keying an old SB-401 which uses ~ 15 volts negative at the key. One look at the MFJ-216 schematic will tell you that applying the 216 to a negative keying circuit will immeadiatly key the transmiter(Note D4 diode directly accross the output connector)I designed a new output stage (2 diodes, one resistor, and one $4.00 IC) capable of handling +/- 100V at 0-300mA at the key. One cut is required on the PC board. Would put the details here if I knew how to input the schematic, BOM, and pix. Anyone wanting to salvage a 216 for negative or positive keying can e_mail me at w9jcc@wi.rr.com for the mod.
The cable provided has an RCA plug at both ends. OK for plugging into the 216, but not great for the key jack of the Xmitter. I cut one end of mine off to find the wires extremely light and hard to strain relief.
The PWB and box were well built.

Stay clear Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Puchased this item thinking it would be a good idea to extend the life of my amplifier. Found it did not work despite being brand new out of the box.

There really is no excuse for poor quality control like that. Far over priced considering there are less than 20 components in the whole box!
