A+ Well built and quiet Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Pros:
This unit looks great
Doesn't spit out any RF hash.
Takes a 40amp load
Binding Posts in the back
Concealed spring terminals in front
Concealled cigarette lighter socket in front
Volts/Amps switchable meter
Variable Voltage
Overload indicator

Cons:
Fan just isn't quiet enough.
(It helps to put a fuzzy clothe on the wall behind the unit.)
Built in speaker really isn't useful.

What do I power with my Diamond PS?
ICOM IC-728 & AT/160, Kenwood TS-570S,
Yaesu FT-817, Yaesu FT-8000,
DSP-599zx and DSP-59+.

All of the above are powered at the same time, by one Diamond PS. Occassionally I'll throw a 160W 2M all-mode amp into the mix. The unit handles TX on the VHF rig while keying the HF rig w/o skipping a beat.

Overall I am very satisfied with this unit and will eventually purchase a second so I can evenly distribute the load and TX w/multiple rigs at the same time.

1a Qualität Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Sehr gute Verarbeitung!

Expensive, but worth it for me. Time Owned: unknown months.
Well, to be honest, I picked out the Diamond because of it's looks... no, I'm not kidding. I have a Heathkit HW-5400 (my dream rig as a kid) in a customized desk setup, but the HW-5400-1 power supply left a lot to be desired. I wanted to replace it long ago, but all the suitable power supplies with built-in speakers were either too big or too small for the space that the custom supply took up. Then along came the Diamond. At first I balked at the price, but I figured what the hey... then once I got it I was impressed. The manufacturing quality is top rate, and it's rated to 40 amps. I have never tried a switching supply before because of horror stories about hash and whine and differing grounds destroying rigs, but no problems here.

The unit is good looking with a single meter that is switchable between current and voltage. It has a large knob to vary voltage (5-15V), but has a center indent that is set to about 13 volts. There is a green LED to show line voltage (power on) and a red LED to show overload. The main power connections are on the back (usual studs w/nuts) but there is a pull down plate on the front that hides a set of spring terminals and a cigarette lighter socket when not in use. I know the unit has a fan, but I've never heard it. It's either never kicked on (I pull at most 23 amps) or is just that quiet! The unit has never gotten warm and I even have some equipment sitting on top of it close to the front (tuner/keyer/etc). The speaker seemed a little tinny when I first hooked it up, after being used to the bigger speaker of the Heathkit supply, but after a few days I couldn't tell the difference. (Guess it's just what the ear is used to.) I was actually quite shocked when I saw how small the speaker is and consider it to sound rather good for the size. One thing it doesn't do is RATTLE the case like my old Heathkit did when you turned it up any at all...

If you have an HW-5400, BUY THIS SUPPLY... you'll find a lot of your problems with the rig will disappear! If you want a hefty supply to run your entire bench with some to spare for that temporary project, set this on your hamdesk and know that DC is just a flip away behind the front plate. And it'll look nice sitting there with it's slim profile and black looks... just can't get over how LIGHT these new switching supplies are either! 73 all, Kevin AC5DK
