Very good UHF radio Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have had 2 ICOM IC-45s. I got them primarily because i was getting tired of all the inane jibber-jabber on 2m. Like all the other ICOMs i have had, these were durable, dependable, reliable, and high performing radios. Their transmitted and received audios were both excellent. Had not my ex-girlfriend sold them out from under me (along with several other radios), i would still be using them. It should be noted that the vintage of the IC-45 is such that no PL tones are in the radio. But for a base radio, this should not pose a problem. After market PL tone generators are available. In my own case, i sent the radios to an ICOM repair specialist in Torrance, CA. While there the tech suggested fixing the PL module so that PL was always on. Then the ground for Pin #2 was connected to the on/off switch. That way i could switch from PL 103.5 to PL 110.9 by grounding and ungrounding Pin #2. Result: I could go from Louisiana to Texas while using the same radio and just switching the tones from Louisiana's PL 103.5 to Texas' PL 110.9!
