Best Passive Indoors Antenna Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Having tried a number of passive indoors antenna designs (coil-form, loop, random wire), I was about ready to give up after encountering poor reception and/or noise with each one. On a whim I decided to build Dave Moisan's 'Carpet Loop' combination loop antenna and L-network tuner design. Am I glad I did. This antenna is the best indoor antenna I have used by far.

The Carpet Loop must be constructed by the user, though the plans are easily obtained online. It uses off-the-shelf parts and ordinary 4-conductor phone cable to construct a loop antenna of 8 to 10-foot diameter using 25 or 30 feet of phone cable. The conductor cables are interconnected and switchable, with a variable capacitor to adjust antenna impedance. You can also instantly switch the antenna to a longwire in situations where that would give better reception, usually on the lower medium wave band. It can be laid on the floor or hung vertically, whichever gives the best reception. Very portable, stores away in less than a minute.

Make no mistake, the Carpet Loop is a very powerful SW loop antenna with low noise. If you simply can't run an exterior antenna, you must try the Carpet Loop, it's that good!
