Serious inverter, serious RF noise Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Available at Amazon.com for about $195. The inverter has a digital voltmeter and a bar-graph showing current draw. Nice. The fan is reasonably quiet. It runs intermittently, depending on load. It is recommended not to mount it with the front panel up; rather, sideways. This is a caution to prevent hot metal leakage causing a fire in the rare case of a short. This inverter is used at a fixed location on an outside wall for household emergency power. On the other side of the wall are a pair of sheltered deep cycle batteries in parallel on charge continuously. The inverter is connected via 7 ft. of #4 wire DOUBLED.(About a #1 equivalent.) With that arrangement, the maximum power available is not more than 700-1000 Watts. To supply rated power, the inverter needs to be mounted much closer to the batteries than 7 feet if using the same size wire. This is a reason to put the inverter outside, near the batteries. Another reason is to move it away from radio equipment. The inverter generated RF NOISE from the broadcast band through the shortwave bands, and is not usable with HF radios in the same room.
