Awesome! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I recently purchased a used Icom IC-R71A Communications Receiver on eBay, and after playing with it for a few hours noticed that SSB communications would intermittently become garbled and unreadable. A quick Google search revealed that this is a common problem with a few older Icom receivers/transceivers which requires the replacement of several trimmer caps in the PLL section of the receiver.

Unfortunately my hands are just not steady enough anymore to do this type of work, so I decided to send the receiver to an Icom Service Center. But, unfortunately, Icom no longer supports the R71A due to the unavailability of parts. So I began looking down the Amateur Radio Equipment Repair listings right here on eHam.net to locate a repair shop with a good feedback rating, as well as one that was not too far away from my home (Iowa) to minimize shipping costs and turnaround time.

It didn't take me long to spot Midwest Technical Services since I live in the Midwest (check) and his feedback rating was a perfect 5.0 out of 5.0 (double-check). I shot an email to Tim who responded back within just a few minutes (triple-check) stating that he could repair my receiver for a reasonable price and in just a couple of days.

I shipped the radio to Tim on Monday. He received it on Wednesday. It was repaired by Friday and shipped back to me on Monday!

Bottom line: Tim did everything he promised and more! Not only did he replace the trimmer caps on the PLL board as requested, but he also found and replaced an intermittent antenna connection that I was unaware of. He returned the radio along with a bag containing the defective parts and included an invoice for payment!

Midwest Technical Services' feedback is 5.0 out of 5.0 for a good reason. The price was right and the service was fantastic. Thanks Tim!

Above and Beyond Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I waited too long to have my FT-920 repaired. The DSP unit was no longer available so I had to find a parts radio that had a working DSP unit. I posted on the FT-920 Yahoo group as well and either eham or qrz looking for a DSP unit. No luck. Only response was from a criminal scammer. I sent it to Tim who confirmed that it needed a DSP unit. He had it for several months until he made contact with a ham who had a 920 to sell for parts. I sent payment to the owner and he sent it to Tim who repaired my 920 and replaced a few other parts. Tim repaired my FT-920 while some of the other big names either didn't want to touch it or no longer repair Yaesu.

Thank you very much Tim. I hope to be a return customer without exception.

Great Service! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Sent an old FT-900 that had multiple problems to Tim for evaluation after several shops told me to "forget it", too old! He had it repaired and returned to me in Oregon within two weeks for a very modest amount.

First Class... Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Lost receive sensitivity, 50 MHz and above, on a Yaesu FT857D. Spent time researching likely cause and possible repair facilities. Am I glad I found Tim at Midwest! A 5-star technician with quick turnaround and incredibly fair pricing. Radio was gone for one day shy of 2 weeks which, counting in- transit days, means it was in his shop for only 3 days! Beautiful job Tim... I highly recommend him! - W1AIU

Highly recommend Time Owned: N.A.
I had several radios and (2) microphones that were in need of repairs. My QTH is about 100 miles from Tim's shop, so after a phone call to determine if he would be present, I drove to his QTH to drop off the equipment. He repaired (2) of the pieces of equipment while I waited. The rest of my repaired equipment arrived via FedEx less than (2) weeks after I had left it with him. All items were extremely well packed to protect from damage. His bill accompanied the shipment and was very reasonable. The quality and speed of his work is outstanding.

Sent Tim my FT-1000D and had him install 2 W8JI Mods...did a fine job..also he did some replacement items like Battery and S-Meter Bulb..But, what really was outstanding was I had a intermittent cw receive signal that would wobble once in a while..He stuck with it until he found the cause and fixed it..Thanks Tim!! plus did some alignment to the radio as long as he had it..The price was very modest and from my door to his was only 3 weeks..which includes shipping both ways..I couldn't be happier with his work and will go back for more when i need it.

Great Service Time Owned: more than 12 months.
A few years ago I had a radio that needed repair. I checked here for reviews and I saw the good reviews for Midwest. I sent the radio to him, got the radio back promptly, it worked fine, and the price was very reasonable. A few months ago a different radio had problems, and there was no hesitation in knowing where to send it for repair. Tim had to order some special parts that he normally doesn't stock (MY LUCK!) and by email he kept me advised of what was happening. Again, the radio came back promptly. The radio was fixed and working great and the price was reasonable. I will not hesitate to use Midwest again if needed, and I heartily recommend him. 73 Don K2DV

Excellent Experience Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I sent Tim my FT1000D for repair. For some unknown reason the rig worked fine when Tim received it and has worked perfectly since I got it back but he still gave it a good going over and fixed some damage done by UPS in transporting it. His service was excellent and his rates were very reasonable and I would highly recommend Tim to anyone and will not hesitate to send my equipment to him in the future.

OUTSTANDING Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Tim is a gentleman who provides superb customer service and an honest appraisal to begin with. I was impressed, and sent my sick TS520S to him. It came back 100% operational within 2 weeks.

This rig has sentimental value to me; I got it as a teenager with paper route money brand new in 1979 (took me a long time save up). I did not want to part with it.

Tim understood, and helped me make my decision to send it in for repairs: no pressure, a realistic estimate of what it would take. I also asked him to check over my little gem for overall health. He found several other issues and fixed those. VERY reasonable price. TERRIFIC service. Tim, I am a customer FOR LIFE! THANK YOU!!
