Excellent size/sound/economy for travel Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I'm quite impressed with this small Kaide KK989, otherwise known as the Kchibo KK 989. It delivers quite good sound, especially through earbuds. Shortwave is perfect for picking up stronger stations. Can be easily held in one's hands while tuning the analog/digital system. Shortwave tuning is somewhat finicky while trying to center the station on its strongest signal, but hey, I'm not griping since this radio only costs under $15. It does have a red signal light for signal strength. I even pulled in a few of the somewhat weaker shortwave channels, but had some station drift. Use of an extended wire antenna might help, but who has that when traveling? All in all, this radio is a perfect travel companion. It is super small, light, runs on 3 AAA batteries which are relatively cheap, and is inexpensive enough that you don't have to sweat it if it gets lost or stolen. I bought it off ebay for a very fair price, and had to return the first one for digital display problems, but the 2nd one works great. Would highly recommend this for a gift for someone you know who travels frequently. Just make sure you allow enough time to give it a test run to make sure all functions work before giving it as a gift. Never the less, I'm happy with this product, and you certainly can't beat the functionality for the price paid!
