Review Summary For : Elgin R-1750 9 Band Shortwave Radio
Reviews: 1MSRP: 100 retailed in Frederick and Ne
Description:
Vintage 1972 Elgin 9 Band Radio. Simple features, Tuner knob, volume knob, and treble/bass knob. Band selector on side, large whip antenna which extends longer than any other portable I've seen. By 1970's standards this was considered a portable even though it weighs 9lbs. Had AM/FM/LW and 6 shortwave bands.

Powerful Pull, Great Sound, Built like a Tank Time Owned: more than 12 months.
This shortwave radio was the first one I purchased back in 1972, and 35 years later, I'm still using it almost on a daily basis. It has survived 4 moves, 1 across state lines, and is still in great shape. This Elgin is rare, and even most shortwave enthusiasts have never heard of it. It has rich sound, strong pulling power, and is constructed in a wood frame with leather surrounds. Useful carrying handle on top since it is quite heavy, 9lbs without the 6 D Cell batteries it takes to operate without a powercord. Band selector has remained tight, but sometimes you have to play with it some to get the band to "kick in." This was the radio that started me off in shortwave listening, and carries with it alot of memories. No fancy filters, digital tuning, or LED lights. Just plain, old fashioned good sound, and strong pull. There has always been some station drift on this analog, but it doesn't bother me enough to be an issue. It was manufactured in Japan for The Elgin Radio Corp. Maspeth, NY.
