Good Antenna for the Money Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Four of us in my area bought this antenna for home QTH base station use. We bought them from the same place for a small quantity discount. One was DOA because the coil at the base was defective when it left the factory.

A Dual Band antenna analyzer was used to tune each of the remaining 3 prior to mast installation and it was discovered that the top section had to be trimmed on two of the units that were longer that the single antenna of the batch that tuned right up.

The SWR curve for this antenna on both bands is better than the advertised specs from Cushcraft and at my QTH the performance of the antenna really improved after raising it from 30 to 50 feet.

Overall the antenna is an excellent value for the money, however, based on my observations of the "lot" of four of these antennas, Cushcraft's quality control of this product line seems to leave a little to be desired.

Antenna made from substandard materials. Not worth the money! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
While the antenna works well, the materials used in the antenna are horrible. The end threads on the radials were not properly threaded nor were the holes in the base where they screwed into. After all of them siezed and broke off while installing them, Cushcraft did replace the base and the three radials. While the replacement parts were machined somewhat better than the original parts, they were still poorly made. Compared to the 2M Ringo Ranger I bought in 1976, the AR-270 is a piece of junk. No wonder so many people refer to Cushcraft as Cusscrap.
