Amazing Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I was going to wait to review this microphone, but I can't. It's amazing. I've run an Icom 740 since the early '80's. I've never been happy with the audio - until now.

At Dayton '08 I talked (briefly) with Bob Heil, and asked for a recommendation to improve the 740's audio. He suggested his PR781 and a Behringer 802 mixer/preamp/eq.

Today I broke a good size 20 m. pile-up on a European, with one call, running 100w to a dipole at 45 feet. The signal report was 31 to 42. But I worked him when others didn't. Credit it to the audio. Other reports have been things like "Your audio is bigger than your signal" (?), "Best 740 I've ever heard," and "Almost broadcast quality."

The 781/802 is a fine pairing.

Nice Sound! Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
I am using the PR-781 with my FT-2000 and IC-756 PROIII. The transmit audio is great. I am not into Hi Fi sound, but find that this mike is my favorite. I have used the Heil Goldline, PR-20, PR-40 and others, but find that the PR-781 beats them all hands down.

EXCELLENT Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Hi Everybody.
My experience with this microphone is incredibe, at my first call in a pile up before equalized with FT-2000, asked me my callsign and what kind of microphone i was using, i told him that was my first contact with the mic, gave me a 14 over 10 about the sound.
I think is incredible, you should have seen my face!

Very satisfied Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
This replaced a Heil PR-20, using it with an IC-756PROIII and W2IHY 8-band EQ and EQ Plus. The PR-20 had an overall flatter response...good, but not as sparkling and bright as the PR-781, which was made particularly for the Icom PRO series. The '781 shows a tight bottom end as well as crisp, clear highs...all audio reports so far have been excellent, clarity and "easy to listen to" being the key. Of course, having the EQ equipment can adjust any mic to the way you want it, but this one also sounds great directly into the radio, by-passing the EQ's. It is an end-firing mic, which greatly attenuates ambient background rear and side noise....close-talking is recommended for best response. Fit and finish is excellent, with substantial weight and a clean, modern look...similar to the more expensive PR-30 and PR-40, with a black satin finish. Highly recommended at a very reasonable price.

Wonderful quality, looks great too! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I am using this with my Icom IC-7000, and EQplus from W2IHY. It sounds absolutely fantastic! Heil has hit it out of the park yet again. I have had several Heil mics for different applications and once again I am totally satisfied!

Very good with FT2000 Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I am using the PR781 on a Yaesu FT2000 and I get very good audio reports. I have used Goldline GM5, MD100b8x, and a friend has ued the MD200. The best results came from the PR781. Here are my starting settings for the FT2000. #083=2-28 or 3-27 #123=200 #124= minus8 #125=2 #126=900 #127=minus6 #128=2 #129=210 #130=8 #131=2 (NOTE: This is with the processor "OFF". Hope this will help ( I obtained these from Bob Heil's site). 73's Marvin KC9WC

Excellent money for value Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.

This mic is better than GM and HM-10 dual by far, at the first 5 hours of operation I received a lot of unsolicited comments about the excellent audio quality and the very well balance between bass and treble. My setup include the 8 band equalizer and the EQPlus from Julius Jones (dream team). Broadcasting audio TX. Excellent money for value, this mic will be another winner from the Heil house. 73 from Rene in Guayaquil, Ecuador, South America.
