Great Audio Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
Im sure i can spend over $1,000 on a microphone for my radio. However. I have a Yaesu ft 950.
i asked Bob Heil Himself what he would recommend for my radio, This was "On The Air" So I bought one, The day i got it 20 meters was wide open with field day, I made over 300 contacts, just because, and the people asked me, they asked me, what ru running, your audio is fanastic. Now in my opinion, if sombody out of the blue that dont know you just says what ru running, your audio sounds great, that tells me that the microphone works well, many many compliments out of the blue. and that is without any other outboard eq, just the radio and microphone, if your radio is set up right, the pr-781 will blow them away. Yes theres better mics out there for alot more money, but for 179.00 its a steal. works great. really. Just my 2 cents worth.

Another solid product by Heil Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I replaced my ICOM SM 20 with the Heil PR 781. A great sounding microphone and it does a good job minimizing background noise such as amplifier fans in the shack. Coupled with W2IHY audio equipment and you have a great sounding system that is easily customizable. You will get great audio reports. By the way, my rig is an ICOM 756 Pro III

Solid performer Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I replaced my heil goldline mike with the PR781 on my Icom 7600. Goldline gave me good audio reports the 781 better reports. I have never received a bad audio report using Bob Heils mikes. The PR781 is another winner for Heil Sound.

Great Mic for FT-950 Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I purchased this mic a couple weeks ago and finally got around to hooking it up the other day. Only problem is there was a serious issue with the audio output. I sent off an email to Bob Heil at 8:00pm on Thursday night and by 11:00pm I had it fixed. Both ends of the cable had to be re-wired.

As I told Bob, I can’t ever remember getting tech support and customer service from ANY company such as you have given.

Have made several contacts and received excellent audio reports.

I highly recommend this mic and the support from Heil is excellent!

Update to previous post... Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Received a replacement mount for the PR-781, this one was threaded correctly, but no explanation was given as to what may have been the cause.

I have owned my PR-781 for just 2 weeks now, and I am VERY satisfied with the way it sounds. A little tweeking of the EQ settings in my FT-950 and all reports are great. I give it a 3/5 only because the HEIL cable that I purchased to use the mic on the 950 needed to be rewired to eliminate an rf feedback problem. I know several other users of this radio/mic combination and they all had the same problem. Also, the mic mount which should have been the industry standard 5/8-27 thread was to big and slid right over the threads of the mount. I talked to HEIL about both problems, they were very surprised about both (although my friends also reported this problem only to get the same response). They asked me what I changed on the cable, and also had me mail back the mount for a replacement (at my expense).

Excellent audio, good value as well Time Owned: more than 12 months.
Used with an IC-7700 for over 12 months.
Very good reports on a variety of transciever EQ settings, but settled on bass -1 treble +3 for dx work.

Very directional (end firing) so ideal for making sure your voice is not mixed with extraneous noises.

Surprisingly good value, albeit you need extras.

Great Microphone! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Fantastic mic for the FT-950! Great sound and easy to get tailored results with the internal equalizers on the Yaesu rigs. I like the mic so well I ordered a new FT-2000D and got a second PR-781 for it. I wouldnt even consider another mic!

"Outstanding audio"! is what I get after the usual signal report on most contacts.

Cant find any faults...Built very well...Looks great too!

Excellent Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
This is the best microphone I have used so far. Currently I have used it with Icom 7600, Pro 3 and 7000. The results are wonderful on all three rigs.

The Heil pr-781 is a great Mic! Sweet Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I purchased the 781 last week and just received it yesterday. OK,I have read the negative comments and in all honesty I have concluded that the mic,as a plug and play is a great mic. I have received unsolicited comments on the mike that the audio sounds great. The mike is well built and easy to use with the setup on my Icom pro3. I wonder if the negative comments are from those who either did not take the time to properly set it up, or dont know how to set it up are what's generating the - comments. If you buy this mike you will love it!SWEET.I give it a 5+

100 % satisfied from results Time Owned: 6 to 12 months.
Have had the 781 for close to a year. Used with the Yaesu 897D, 2000 X, IC-756 Pro III and most recently the Flex 5000 A. On air results have been 100 % consistantly excellent. I have always had on air feed back stating the audio is fantastic. I am ready to purchase two more-for the Collins and the Drake. keep the compression low and the gain at about 75%-works everytime!!
Thanks to Heil for another Amateur Radio Mic!!
