This is a 6 ft portable/mobile antenna from an established company with a long line of commericial mobile antennas in Australia. This antenna fills a niche for those of us who sail, operate portable, or rent cars and use temporary HF antennas. The 2 foot breakdown is perfect to take in luggage or an overnight bag. Like all Outbackers, it is extremely rugged, easy to tune (wander lead placement into taps) and presents a low profile. It is not inexpensive, but you get what you pay for in life. How does it perform? Like any 6' vertical with a limited counterpoise system. I work DX with it, even at Sunspot Minimum, and it is my antenna of choice when I travel by air around the US and internationally. It seems to be about 2 S units down from my Outbacker Outreach (a 12' version of this same antenna). For a permanent HF mobile setup, I'd likely choose the 7' Outbacker Perth, but for a very reliable, easy to pack, lightweight portable antenna that is extremely rugged and easily field deployable, this one wins hands down. I use mine with four 16' radials made from 3/8 tinned copper braid, and attach with Anderson Power Pole connectors for easy assembly. Bottom line: If portability and reliability are high on your list, the Tri Split Outbacker is an intelligent choice. It will get you on the air and get you heard when you would have left a bigger antenna at home.
