Worth what I paid for it (35.00) Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
I bought one from a CB Radio Guy, cheap. I converted it for 10 meter use. It worked good, for a vertical. No better, no worse then any other 10 meter vertical. I paid 35 dollars for it, figured that was less then I could buy the aluminum for to make a 10 meter antenna.

Just to let you know I have owned this antenna since 1996. The only trouble I had was when a tornado passed through the area and bent it where the first and second section went together. I cut one foot off the second section at the bottom to straiten the antenna and lengthen the top and it’s been fine ever since. The S.W.R is 1.1 unless I run 1000 watts continual all night then it will sneak up to 1.7. I do think it’s odd I had my previous review here for over a year then after I got on the Jo Gunn web site as a testimonial bad review start appearing here. I will admit the first time I tuned this antenna it gave me trouble and I called Gunn several times, but after I learned the procedure it was no problem. All I can say is nothing worth having is easy!

I have owned several vertical antennas over the years and this one is the best I have used. It has received better than a Sirio Vector 4000 I have owned. The transmitting is greater than any vertical antenna I have used. I believe this is because the antenna is a 28ft one element beam not to be confused with a ground plane. I admit this is an expensive antenna and is somewhat hard to tune but the tech support is good with help just a phone call away. Like all Jo Gunn’s this is an extremely durable antenna. Only a true beam will be better.

in 1978, I bought a new hy-gain penetrator for $28 bucks and it worked fine for about 15 years.Then I decided to go big time ann bought a JO-GUNN "SON OF A GUN" ? 22foot vertical for about $220. bucks.I mounted it in the same place on the side of my house on a 15 foot piece of 1 1/4 inch water pipe so it takes about 3 of us to do it.It took awhile to adjust that goofy gamma match (the antenna was annodized)but I managed to do it and got good results too.Then came the windy days and winter.I noticed how it would whip back and forth but I didn,t worry because it was supposedly made of "HIGH GRADE AIRCRAFT ALUMINUM" .iT WASN'T too long before it snapped in two(it broke just above the base section). WE took it down and I inserted some fibreglass rods inside to stiffen it up then joined the two severed sections with a length of aluminum heavy wall conduit.At first it worked just fine and Ithought I solved the "WINDY DAY" problem.After a few months, the SWR was sky-high although the antenna still looked fine.Again we took it down only to find that it had broken inside the aluminum conduit!!! After acouple more futile attempts at stiffining/reinforcing it,omly to get the same results,I finally gave up.I replaced it with an I-MAX 2000 and adjusted it for a good match on 10 meter and it's been going strong for the last 5 or so years,and surprisingly it's also resonant on 15 meters !!!I will say that a neighbor of mine bought the 12 foot JO-gunn PISTOL ??? at the same time I did and his is still working fine after about 15 (or so ) years and he claims to get some good QSO'S with his.So folks,the bottom line is that they should use a more rigid type of aluminum for their longer antennas.

I just want to say that I have had this antenna for 3 years and I could never get the swr down below 1.6. I did everything possible to get it right. Customer service is terrible. I dont know what the other reviewer was talking about. Not a bad antenna for receive and transmit, but the gamma match is junk. Lots of heat loss through the gamma. The price, absolute rip off. Not worth more then $100 at the most. Get an Interceptor 10k. No gamma match. BLOWS AWAY the jo-junk. I followed the instructions and swr was right at 1.4 with 100 watts going out. 10 minutes of adjustments and it was flat. Stay away from jo-gun. Trust me otherwise I would have not wasted my time to let you know. 73's
