Nice Radio Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
The radio works fine, just make sure that your power supply is up to the task. I was using an older kenwood KPS-7 and on certain UHF frequencies when set to high power the radio would reset to the introduction screen. When I hooked the radio to my Astron RS-35a it worked fine. The radio has alot of possibilities of which I really haven't experimented with yet. The instruction manuals with regards to potential problems you might experience are marginal at best. Check out the TMD710A yahoo group on groups.yahoo.com. They were very helpful and were more help than the manuals were. Otherwise enjoy.

Great rig Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have had this radio for a month. It is very easy to read the display. The display also holds up very good in hot weather. Setup for APRS is a snap. Only took me 5 minutes to get APRS going. I installed the VGS3 voice module and when I saw the guts of this rig I was impressed.Module installed very easy. The sort fuctions for aprs stations is a great new feature over the D700. I also liked the display color options. I find the green easier to see. It also changes color if you get a message sent to your radio.Non aprs features are impressive. 1000 memories memory group scan and true V/V U/U V/U u/V dual bands. Wx alert is something that impressed my xyl (who is not a ham) as we had an approching storm in Chattanooga a wx alert was broadcasted using 1050 hz tone. This was going on when I was in scan fuction. Very easy to program with Travel Plus. This has great audio and every day I find a new feature. The D700 was a great radio but this surpasses my expectations for a dual band mobile radio. Not to mention crossband repeater with Id and echolink. The D7A Kenwood HT will act as a controler for the radio. Remote repeater fuctions can be acessed via TT pad on the D7A. Go get thie rig you will not be dissapointed...

Good Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I have this transceiver for a few days and i enjoy it very much.
It's a pity that the small usermanual is in paper and the expanded manual is in PDF-file on CD-rom.
I think it's is easier to read when you have it on paper.
Also a disadvantage IMHO is the GPS-port on the controlhead and not on the mainunit like the 700.
No normal RS232-port is used on the main unit but a minidin is installed is also a small disadvantage IMHO.
The first audioreports are good and that's in the tradition of Kenwood.
Also the supplied original mike is improved : not so tiny like the original standard mike supplied with the TMD700 however i use the MC52 DTMFmike that i like a bit more.
Display is easy to read and i like the green color because that's nice for your eyes when you operate in dark like in the mobile.
The menu is easier to read when i compare with the 700.
For the rest , the TMD710 is easy to operate in the mobile.
I work with a Holux GR213 GPS-mouse which is a good combination with the TMD710.
The rx sound is ok but i recommend a external speaker espacially when the main-unit is installed under de passengerseat like me.
When you need a complete package for VHF/UHF in your car then this is the radio for you.
I give it a 4 because of the manual-isseu.
