Other reviewers must have low expectations Time Owned: 3 to 6 months.
First off let me say, it is better than a 2x4 with holes in it. But, I bought the 4 connector version and am using it in a vertical slider about 33 inches wide.

The first short coming is there are no instructions, or suggestions for using it. Right off you can see you are going to need at least some weather stripping to seal the interface with the window.

The unit is not very stiff and consists only of plexiglass with some connectors mounted thru some holes drilled in the plexiglass. The width adjustment is just a slot and two bolts with self locking nuts in a slot. To keep from crushing the plexiglass there are two plastic sleeves on the bolts in the slot. They are supposed to allow the nuts to be tightened just enough to lock the slot. The sleeves in my unit were a little long. I had to file them down a little so I could tighten the nuts enough to lock the slot.

I found the unit to be two floppy to try to use as is. I bought some 1 1/2 inch L extrusion aluminum stock and made a top and bottom bracket that I mounted with screws to the plexiglass. This made unit more rigid and I could still adjust the width before final mounting.

The L extrusions allowed a large lip for the top and bottom of the unit. I bought some expanding rubber foam and put that on top and bottom lip. Then when I shut the window on it, it seals the gaps with a weather (cold air and water) resistant seal.

The adjustment gap is another problem. I used some 3M clear packing tape and put it on the inside and outside. It seems water proof and I am hoping it will be long lasting. I stuck some more foam insulation in the crack where the two sliding pieces interface.

I am happy with the device now that I made extensive mods. The biggest gripe I have is that there should have been instructions and suggestions for installation. The fact that you need at least some weather sealing materials to make a weather resistant seal should be pointed out. Furthermore, some venue on the Quick Silver web site for users to trade installation ideas etc. would go a long way to making it a product. We are hams and we do like to modify and improve things, but just sending you a piece of plastic with some connectors in it is a bit much even for a ham radio product

With some mods and install ideas, a little work with some hand tools, and some ingenuity, you can make this into a nice product. Too bad it didn't start out that way.

WORKS!!! Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
Works great. I just ordered my second one. One window was a bit too deep, but one connector was free for use. This system is much better than the Comet under the window jumpers which cost more! If you use an amp or run over 100 watts, you will need one of these. I put some electrical tape over the small opening where the adjustment crack is to keep all air out. Very simple.

Genius! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have had this for years now and it works great. I highly recommend you buy this one instead of some copy.

The guy who thought this up is really smart. Just open the window, put the plate in the opening and then close the window. It could not be easier. The folks at Quicksilver Radio have some other neat products too. Take a look at their website.

Highly recommended!! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I have had this installed for over 2 years. Due to Hurrican IKe, had to make a minor mod, since it broke the window. Due to shifting the balance of windows with 100+ mph winds, had to reseal them with canned insulation. Other than that, the original stripping still works. Plus, it is cheaper than MFJ's. Attaway.Quicksilver!!!

This is a much better system than wood. It uses a Lexan@ type material with a slotted screw in a channel for adjustment. It come in 2 different sizes for windows. You have a choice of 2, 4, or custom inputs. Standard inputs are BNC or SO239 connections. You can mix and match these. I have used this for almost a year. I have not noticed any increase in utility bills or loss of heat or cooling. The slot can be covered with stick on weather stripping. These can also be painted if desired. They can be removed if you decide to move it to another window or if you sell the house. Also, no increase in outside noise. Best of all, no holes in the walls.

Simple, brilliant Time Owned: 0 to 3 months.
I'd been using a homebrew panel I'd made from a strip of wood, but no matter what I did, it was drafty as could be - especially in the winter. I sprung for one of these on Ebay and I couldn't be happier. I stuck a thin piece of weatherstripping around all 4 sides before I installed it, then another over the slot that adjusts the width. Gone are the drafts, gone is the traffic noise from outside. Simple, inexpensive, elegant, functional.

Easy install, does the job! Time Owned: more than 12 months.
I had mine for over a year before I installed it. (Frankly, I put it in the closet and forgot about it.) When my wife saw it installed, she was ready to crown me (with a club, not with a crown). Before I installed the Quicksilver product, she stuffed everything but the kitchen sink in the holes and gaps to keep the cold air out. After I put it in and told her how long I had it stored away, she couldn't believe how much cold air I had needlessly let in with my primitive, previous setups. I have the four SO 239 model and can't say enough good things about it!!
